Avon Supersport 3.4 / 4.0 weight?

Not for the first time I've watched an auction just finish of an Avon 3.4S Supersport thinking I fancy one of those craft... it's a varnish and Hypalon thing!

Years ago I was talking about one and Matt H very kindly uploaded some scans of a brochure here...

http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/avon-su...bay-32256.html

That gives the weight of the 3.4S as 88lb which seems hard to believe. I have a Rover 3.1 at the moment which is a far lighter grade boat only rated to 10HP but that weighs 91lbs.

Then... if you're sticking with this... there is a thread with a slightly different scan of an Avon Supersport brochure... http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/avon-s4...ect-32519.html where the page with the dimensions for the 4.0 has just caught the bottom of the section for the 3.4 where it shows the weight as a diagram of a bag weighing 88lb for the boat plus a representation of a bagged floor at 57lbs. So I suspect the real weight is 88+57 = 145lbs and the first brochure linked has forgotten to include the floorboards weight.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

I'm not much in favour of bumping my own posts but I know no-one will see this once it drops away so just one more try.... if anyone had any ideas about these weights or links to an old spec of the boat that gives a proper figure I'd be really grateful.

I had an S400 as one of my first boats many years ago. I don't have any details, but I can tell you it certainly wasn't light weight!

We had a lot of fun with it, notable moments being a high speed run in the almost dark on the river Nene in Peterborough, and being shipwrecked on the Thames in central London when the badly repaired floor gave way

So a broad opinion might be the later brochure that gives the 4.0 as 108lb boat + 75lb floor is a more realistic total at 183lbs rather than the first brochure that appears to show the total at 108lbs.

A 100lb ish boat feels very light and I reckon you'd have remembered.

Oh well to round off for anyone who might trip across this thread in the future...

Matt H has kindly sent me some more scans of the Avon Supersport brochure inc the full spec page which confirms weights shown in some places in the brochure do not include the floorboards.

The correct total boat weights are

S3.4 - 145lbs
S4.0 - 183lbs
S4.6 - 274lbs

Hi, longshot however I have picked up an s345 supersport and was curious if you still have the scans for the brochure? I know it's a long shot as this thread is 6 or so years old but I'm hoping!!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Are the scans on posts 6&7 on the original thread any help?

Supersport S3.40, Boat 88lbs (40kg) + floor 57lbs (26kg) = 145lbs (66kg)
Supersport S4.00, Boat 108lbs (49kg) + floor 75lbs (37kg) = 183lbs (86kg)
Supersport S3.45 RIB, 198lbs (90kg)
Info taken from a 1991 Avon sales brochure.
Cheers
Neil

Just back on this forum. I have a spitfire 4.0 but I brought it in to fix some seams and they lost the first floor board (first board connecting to the bow. Can anyone out there provide the dimensions so I can get one made? It actually has two pieces to it that get screwed together. I have the piece that screws onto the top of the other board but am missing the piece that touches the spot at the bow. Thanks community for the help!
