Navionics Gold vs NauticPath

Had a look at our Navionics Gold card on the Lowrance HDS, compared to the much cheaper NauticPath it looks rubbish, have I missed a setting?

May be able to get comparison screen shots tomorrow.

Can you be more specific? Obviously one can "turn off" certain levels of detail and "declutter" the screen, but do you mean poor bathymetric data?

Have you compared what you're seeing to the basemap on the plotter?

I found the opposite. I had a new Nautipath card in one plotter and a new Navionics card in the other at one point and disliked the nautipath so much in comparison I flogged it sharpish and paid about three times as much to buy a second navionics card.
I didn't think it was as clear or detailed, or accurate as the navionics gold card.

In saying that now I have upgraded one of the plotters to HDS I think the older units display the data more clearly and more like a paper chart.

It appears to be a rendering issue,NauticPath clear and sharp, Navionics; some lines and text are crystal clear, some lines contours for instance step visibly like a pixelated image. Looking at say a sector light the arc showing red/white has fuzzy out of focus edges. I'll pop back tonight if I can and get some screen shots or photographs if the phone will allow.

I'm no expert here, but how old is your navonics card?

- Could you be seeing the plotter equivalent of playing a VHS tape through your new HD plasma telly & wondering why the picture isn't too good?

2008 I think the NauticPath is even older hence the disappointment so far.

Got a couple of screen shots that show the difference quite well.
Nauticpath showing nice and clear, Navionics fuzzy and garish.

Allegedly thats as good as it gets on an HDS, Lowrance replied

"Thank you for contacting us.

There is no setting to improve the data provided by Navionics on the screen.

Please feel free to contact us if we may be of further assistance.

Lowrance Customer Service
Division of Navico Inc.

Might buy a spare NauticPath just incase.
