Your RIB looks like a fabulous treasure-trove of instruments / gadgets / tools etc... - and all sensibly stowed so as to fall to hand / eye when needed - I am impressed and jealous, since my new purchase (see 'Navigation' thread on main board) does not even have a compass (yet!!)

I am also very impressed with your on-deck fuel stowage (see thread "fuel tanks") - even more so since you have moved from a fixed to a portable solution.

I wish you a huge amount of safe fun with this very business - like set-up.

Like the setup lots of Kit and lots of work to get all this stuff on and working , how long did the work take or did you just do it bit by bit, the keel guard is the real thing excellent for beaching and landing ,Avons are good strong boats, have you also filled the two small holes at the front of the flooding hull ? gavin

Thankyou for your kind replies, even more so when I look at the boats you own. Ben, I'm sure you'll agree that a lot of the enjoyment of owning a rib comes from setting it up to your own spec. I was fortunate in that the jockey seat and console unbolt from the deck in minutes so it could be removed to the spray shop. It then took about a week to wire up the instruments and fit the kit back on. Gavin, the two bow holes are blanked off. There are also two drain plugs in the deck so if I take on water this can be drained into the flooding hull or removed via bilge pump or twin venturis. The Avon is a strong boat but being ex commercial the finish is a bit agricultural compared to newer boats. The next job is to take the engines to my mates spray shop. He does the graphics for superbikes so I'm hoping for something special from him. Scotty, the anti jet ski thing is an old missile container which they sell at Malvern boat jumble for a pound each. Bargain for a waterproof and floating container. Flares live in there. As per usual, I'll probably get bored when its finished and start looking for something else. (but only if its orange)

without doubt the Avon 5.4 Searider is a very good rib. The first serious ribbing which I did was on that particular model fitted with a Mercury 75 ELPTO engine with s/s prop. A perfect combination of rib and power. I would have thought that a 115 HP is a bit too much and I believe Avon recommend only a max of 90 HP for the 5.4 Searider. I do not understand why you have the water ballast system blanked off. cos at rest this makes the rib very stable and on acceleration the water is just thown out and the ballast system and the rib would just come up out of the water and with the right engine tilt the speed was just there. The ballast system is also a good braking system cos when slowing down you get the feeling as if you had applied the brakes this of course is caused by the water flooding the ballast system
I like your console arrangement I just had the Avon standard for that model nothing fantastic .

I wonder if anyone has other views on this matter.

Whatever it is a very good and strong rib and I am sure you are going to enjoy it.

Dzien dobry, Andre. Your points are very valid. I have toyed with the idea of dropping down to a ninety but these thoughts disappear every time I start that Yamaha up. It really is a fine engine so I'm loathe to part with it. Avon do recommend a max of 90hp or a max transom weight of 175kg. The Yamaha weighs in at 167kg so I'll live with that. The blanking kit is easily removed in minutes so if the boat is used for diving/fishing the blanks are removed for the extra stability but for cruising/watersports it accelerates and planes much quicker with the blanks in. I'm not sure what the weight of the ballast water is. I was told it was 2000lbs but this seems a lot to me.

Witaj Andre, I've never been to Poland but I've heard a lot about it from a Polish crewmate who I've worked with for many years. He has also taught me many Polish words, mainly bad ones. My favourite is chuj.
