Banish the green stuff!

Having recently purchased a used 6.25M Ocean I’ve Now collected it from its wet mooring. The hull is reasonably clean as it was antifouled, however the underneath of the last couple of feet of each tube is coated in the usual green stuff.

Has anyone found a good product or method to remove this from Hypalon without scuffing the material or spending days with a nailbrush?

Thanks

Nasher.

Polymarine has a RIB cleaner that you spray on the tubes, let it be for a minute and than clean it of, it should be ok, i never tested it my self but friends of mine recomended it.

polymarine

I have used this cleaner before in 2000 on a new rib with blue tubes, did what it said on the back and it dyed the tubes. NEVER AGAIN.

Asked my friend and regarding to him it was a new cleaner from 2002 or 2003, his tubes is blue and he is really happy with the result.
That`s probably why they have a new one

I have the 2 feet of green on the tubes and the cleaners will only remove the worst, the green stain remains. I figure when it is back on the pontoon I won't be able to see it!

Have not tried this but sounds good!

Quote from Andy Clarks web sit.
"By far the best RIB and boat cleaner I've found. Despite owners using expensive proprietary cleaners from the boat business, our customers can't believe the difference when using Micro-TFR for the first time. With little effort, you will restore your boat's original colour. Can be diluted with 5 parts of water, but if used neat in an atomiser and spread around quickly with a sponge, the affect is dramatic.
Normally used by the trucking industry for cleaning curtainsiders, this cleaner works well with jetwashers. Wear rubber gloves if using neat."

Try your local trade cleaning supplier (see under Janitorial Supplies in the Yellow Pages). TFR stands for "Traffic Film Remover" and is a generic term for this type of industrial cleaning product.

They will also stock other general purpose cleaning potions which will work well, and cost about a tenth of anything specifically marine related!

Tube cleaner

Daniel

I cleaned the boat as usual after an outing at West Mersea, Jet washed and then soapy water, rinced and left to dry as stated on the back of bottle, spray on a small area at a time it said and leave for 2 minutes before wiping off with damp cloth, sprayed on as directed went in caravan to get a cuppa from the guv'nor , wiped off with damp cloth and had a different shade of blue tube.
Never used it again, but had a stroke of luck when the valves kept leeking, the boat went back to Ribeye and came back with new tubes on, THANKS Mr Chivers and Mr Tilley.
PS. Thats why i have bought another.

Richard

I use Sainsbury's cream cleaner. does the job, and doens't scratch. I then finish it off with some expensive polishing stuff - looks very good when I've finished.

Greenhams in Soton near us. Or I reckon Solent truck parts nearer you. It's on the trading estate near the big Sainsbury's in Fareham near Junction 11.

Or you can grab some stuff of us which I sus[pect was originally TFR before it was repackaged.
