Cummins Mercruiser 1.7DTI (120HP) + Jet Drive

A lot has been said about this engine and if I recall correctly a lot of good things. So far we have been hearing of the engine + Alpha 1 drive.
Well for a few years this has been also available with a jet drive as a package from Mercury Marine. We have only just now got round to fitting it in a 6.3 mtr rib ie the PARKER 630.

My nephew Chris took it out to sea on the first test and on calm water achieved a speed of 25 knots. This can be now compared to 36.5 knots I got out of my demo Parker 630 "Seahawk 3". Chris later ventured out into the chop and confirmed that the rib coped very well. Unfortunately there was no second boat to take photos.
This rib will be available for demos at the coming up Cummins Mercruiser conference so TD if you may have an opportunity to test drive it.

This package is seen as ideal for inland and inshore water rescue application

What changes have you had to make to the hull to accommodated the jet, other than the oblivious Des

Andre unfortunately I will not be at the Cummins seminar but my colleage Björn, I however will be spending a week at Verado training in Belgium in March

Nice pictures and hope to try it out one day

Bogi, Pls tell Bjorn to speak to Chris who will be representing us and being resposible for the rib. I am sure most will have an opportunity to test the jet rib

as you can see from the attached photo the transom has been modified and from the earlier shots you will have seen the botton of the boat ie the water intake. I have asked for a shot of the inside of the engine box and will post when received.
By the way this is our very latest development - a test tank so even when minus 20 degrees C outside or more we can still water test the ribs

the second shot will give you some idea of the changes to the bottom of the hull

Very interesting. The jet and its intake looks as if it is incorporated into a pretty similar sized package to the outdrive (alpha?) legs that the 1.7 normally comes with. Out of interest how easy would it be to make the switch between normal prop drive to the jet? I'm assuming that there would have to be some surgery, just idly wondering how much!?

The Jet unit has been designed for that particular motor and comes as a package. Not so sure if you can get it on its own. Also I don't think it would be feasible to make the switch. A lot of surgery
