Searider Refurb - a fews pic's

Just thought I'd get some comments from you guys and girls. Being doing this refurb for aboat 5 weeks, seems to be going on forever, but nearing the end now.....I think. Weather has got in the way a finishing sooner.

Would be great to here what people think, good or bad..!

1. Day one - decided to take out old Avon Searider console, just to have a look.
2. Oops - Went further than I planned, I'm committed now.
3. Old console and foot straps leave a far old mess.

More to follow....

4. Start of console construction from marine ply and resin filleting blend and byaxial glass tape.
5. Applying a radius of filleting blend on the inside joints.
6. Basic structure constructed.

7. First resin coats on outside prior to being covered in smooth glass cloth.
8. Major sanding day again, oh and again, oh and again. Glass Cloth and 5 layers of resin.
Spot the origanal template in cardboard.

9. Don't now if any one else has those old supports for external fuel tanks, I rang Avon and I was adviced that they where built using marine ply layers screwed down onto hull prior to GRP being applied, used an angle grinder with sander pad to remove forward and middle sections.
10. Start of the deck clean up.
11. Still undecided how far to go with the transom.

12. Secured to deck using resin, fillet blend, and byaxial glas tape both inside and outside of console, you'd need a sledge hammer to take it off.
13. Holes cut in console for fittings.

Converted to B&W as pictures where taken under tarp whilst raining and they look weird in neon blue.

14. Cut layers of seating foam to make seat support, backed with a resin coated sheet of marine ply. Remembered just in time to cut holes in ply to allow air to vent in and out.
15. My wife made cover using hyperlon, we where a bit worried about whether the sowing machine was going to handle multiple layers of hyperlon, so we took advice and where told to use sowing machine needles for leather and a polyester thread, worked a treat.

That looks awesome mate, a good bit of fabrication!
How much did you pay for the original stripped hull?

It wasn't stripped it was one of the nicest original Seariders I've seen now it's the best Searider I've seen.

The pictures don't really do the project justice It is extremely well done and looks excellent in the flesh!

U Bolts are clamping the ally tube tight, and with 3 of them I trust it will hold, I hav'nt done a swing test on it yet but I have yanked it around a bit to see if there's any play, I think the ally Aframe will bend first. Cheers Ben
