I've allready spoken to
David Bull from the silver dolphin group mentioned in the article.

I explained to him that we were there to photo the minnack theatre and the shark was swimming amoungst us.

We may have done some minor manouvering to get close up pictures but the basking shark turned and swam back through our pack of boats several times - hardly what I'd call harrased.

David Bull agreed that it was more important to make sure the props not spinning than to try and get out the way.

Ive also written a response to the cornishman newspaper - I wonder if they will print it.

I'm afraid this is simply a case of jelous observer on the cliffs at the minnack so pissed off he couldn't be down there with us that he found great pleasure in reporting it to the first people he could find.

Maybe we should have harpooned it and dragged it to the scillies for the BBQ - then they would have had something to winge about

Not quite, but along similar lines, I think the most relevant fact was that the shark continued to feed whilst swimming around us, hardly something a 'harassed' animal would do.

The mouth of an 11-metre-long basking shark can be up to two metres wide but because these sharks feed only on plankton, they are generally harmless.
Sounds a bit like Bob at the BBQ!

We were all swiched off when it swam around us. As Jeff say's it fed and gently swam around us, odd behaviour for an 'harassed' shark one would think. This is typical of the 'Do good' busy bodies that we are inundated with down here. :flame:

It was a beautiful creature in its natural environment.

Mind you I did wonder about the 'exotic BBQ food contest!'

Are you refering to Roy at a barbie wading through those Tenderloins?

The only possible danger that shark was in was if some of Mrs. Sticky's culinary delights had slipped over the side. We'd have all been in the paper for inflicting 'raving indigestion' on the poor thing.

More coverage on Westcountry TV last night, no specific reference to 6 boats harassing a Basking Shark.

Heah Alice, what's that supposed to mean "culinary delights" and "raving indigestion". Are you trying to suggest I gave you indigestion with my kebabs.....

I felt as rough as rats the following morning, I put it down to those Kebabs. Can't think of anything else it could have been.

Any chance that you two could have a Mr. and Mrs. Sticky Log-on? It get's a bit confusing.

Very cool.

The sharks, I mean; not you harassing boaters.

We supposedly have basking sharks seaonally off the California coast, but I've never seen one (and only personally know of one person who has.)

Just a case of nothing better to do . There is no way we harassed that shark . It never stopped feeding for the whole 10 mins we watched it .

I used to kayak with a marine Biologist from Plymouth Aquaraium and learned a bit about these creatures and spent some time watching them , You don't wan't to upset one in a Kayak . The first thing they do is stop feeding dive and swim away .

Had we been a bunch of divers in ribs we would have been in the water with cameras etc but I expect that would have been viewed as Ok . Not knocking divers or saying its not Ok you understand

I blame Alice , it was her driving again Iam not boating with her again unless we can launch out of site of land

Mrs Sticky here! Do you not think that the large consumption of JD's had a little to do with how rough you felt in the morning, you didn't look too good..... and were rather quiet all day!!
