BBC Wales is covering the event, look out for coverage today and Sunday (6:30pm news?)

For anyone who wants to go and wave a flag, here's Ian's note form a different forum.

The boat should be at Beaumaris Pier, start/finish line, about 9am with the RYA Timekeepers arriving just before 10am. Departure time for the start of the run is 10:30am.
I look forward to seeing some of you on the pier before and after the event.

Please look out for Debbie, she will be wearing an event sweatshirt and will be distributing the vouchers for a hot dog or burger. Hot drinks will also be available to buy.

As I have said before, we hope to have the RNLI Station open for the duration of the event and all donations will be gratefully received.

I would like to give a special mention to the event sponsors, and thank them for their support in the planning and execution of the event.

HotRIBS.com has publicised the event on www.HotRIBS.com (boating related site and discussion forum) and donated the trophies for the event -HotRIBS.Com RIB World Record (RYA National Water Speed Record). These will be on display at the pier until Black Jack returns! After the event and presentation of the main trophy will take place, provided we clock a time, and it will be housed within the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club and remain there until the record is broken. I would like to thank the RAYC for agreeing to hold the trophy.

Suzuki Marine GB, www.suzuki-marine.co.uk has donated an engine service in preparation for the event. The boat has not run since this service was carried out with the intention of everything being fresh for the day. Black Jack is powered by a Suzuki 250hp 4 stroke V6 outboard engine (3.6 litre). Suzuki have recently introduced a 300hp 4 stroke at the top end of their range. They now offer 2.5hp through to 300hp so have a 4 stroke engine to meet your boating needs whatever they are.

Gecko Headgear has loaned both helm and navigator a crash helmet and visor for the event. These were delivered at the end of October and I must thank Gecko for their patience. www.geckoheadgear.co.uk Helmets available range from the basic through to those with video attachments to record whatever activity you are participating in. They also produce inter-helmet communication systems which are in use with the RNLI and HM Coastguard.

Llyn.info has also publicised the event on their Llyn Peninsula related website www.llyn.info Llyn.info covers all news and events that happen on the Peninsula with all photo’s on the site taken by the webmaster. Please view this site as the information, articles and photo’s make interesting reading even if you don’t know the area.

Harlech Food Service have donated the hot dogs and burgers for all spectators. Harlech are a North Wales based family owned food wholesale company serving Ynys Mon (Anglesey) by way of regular deliveries. They also cover an area of Wales from Aberystwyth in the west, to Denbigh and Ruthin in the north. www.harlech.co.uk

Dickies International head office in Bangor has kindly stored the boat and trailer since it arrived at the beginning of November. The intention was to hold it for a couple of weeks until the run. The recent spell of windy weather has prolonged this period long beyond the time any of us thought. While at Bangor, Dickies carried out the engine service, sponsored by Suzuki Marine GB, as they are the local authorised Suzuki dealer and distributor.

I made a promise that I wouldn't set of the other way and meet them at the finish line
to make sure I don't do this they are putting the BBC film crew on my boat, weather looking stunning for the event

The trip went well. 68.0nm in 1 hour 35min 10secs. We had flat water til we got to the north of the island where the South stack and Skerries overfalls were a bit lumpy. It was a bit foggy round the top with vis at about 1/2 mile.

We set a national water speed record for under 30', a national record for a commercially coded boat and the first will possibly be ratified as a World record.

The route entailed 41 significant course changes and five unplanned ones to go round other traffic.

There's a nice trophy sitting in the Royal Anglesey Yacht club for the first to break the record under RYA regs. Any attempt will have to encompass the three outer marks of the course we ran which are the outermost nav buoy at the Caernarvon bar, a point north of the Skerries and a Starboard mark on Dinmor bank at the north entrance to the Straits.

Any attempt will probably have to run in the winter months as it's unlikely the speed restrictions on the straits will be lifted during the summer months due to traffic.

The only downside to the day was when we moored up at Beaumaris after completing the run, my trusty Standard Horizon handheld, which must have vibrated loose from its clip, decided to go for a dip. When I looked over the side my sunglasses fell off and followed it to the bottom.
