Does either of you recognise this particular 5.4SR hull?

Hint:- It looked a bit different last time you saw it.

Good grief, is that the one we launched off the top of an ISO container because the crane wouldn't reach it and there was no other way of getting it down

tough little boats those Avons.

Interesting to see side by side seating in a 5.4m hull, wouldn't have thought there was enough room but clearly there is.

Looks very smart

Yes its that hull.

I think Steve has done a cracking job.

Well just to add to the evidence here are some of the other pics I took during the last 2 years.

Sadly when I started giving it the thorough examonation it needed rather more work than I expected.
So I stripped it back to bare hull and had a little think.

Then I saw the black rib on the right and realised what I wanted to do.

It's not quite there yet but it's been on the water and is getting there

Just superb, lots of work but it deffinately worth it and shows you don't have to spend £25k to get out on the water.

Not seen a SR5.4 with side-by-side seating. As Pete7 says, I didn't think it could work.

Is there enough space between the jockeys for comfort? The seats themselves don't look especially narrow.

Also, what happened to the elephant trunk deck drains?

Thanks for all the kind comments, as a first timer it's a bit scary unveiling the efforts of your labours.

The layout did take a bit of thought, I took 4 out in it 2 weeks ago on it's maiden trip. Just a short one to see if everything worked ok.
I'm around 6ft and 14stone, the rest were all over 5ft 8. No complaints at all, but they've got nothing to compare it with. I did have a go in all the seats and it seemed fine to me.
There'll also be a suicide seat on the front of the console when I can find the right hinges.

Real test will be when it gets out into a real sea and see how it fits then. As I told Pete when I got it, it's really intended as a fun / learning boat for my two teenagers. They'll just have to be grateful for having a boat of their own.

What it really needs now is a better engine - the 70 VRO will be thirsty to say the least.

Oh and as for the elephant trunks - there were none fitted. Thetransom has been re-inforced with 6mm plate, inside and out before I got it so I guess they were blocked up.

My fir them but will wait for proper sea trial to see if I need them.

Be great to see another SR close up to see the original fit out.

To help anyone else thinking of the side-by-side plan, what make of jockey seats did you use?

Seat bases came from Leeway on IOW. As did the console. Both are of very good solid construction. I got the seat covers and the Stainless Steel seayt backs made up at Midas Engineering in Poole. Midas is a one man company that'll make you pretty much anything you can draw in Stainless, lots of work for Sunseekers etc but happy to help us Rib Types. He's going to make me up a new A frame next year. the existing one's a bit ropey.

If anyone wants dimensions or pics from the 4 man layout let me know

Having been kept informed of the project progress over the last 6 months I wont tell you who made and fitted the tubes, Steve can do that himself.
However I was surprised by the differance in quotes Steve got, and also by the local place that came up trumps on both price and timescale.

The person posts on here, so I will apologise now for not having any reason to believe you wouldn't.

I never relaised you lot would be so interested. But hey, my learning curve could be to someone's benefit.

Tubes were done by Ribshop on the Hamble. Pretty much the best price with quick delivery. I've not been in this game long enough to know the ins and outs of who everyone else has or would use so I had to go on that old favourite of gut instinct. So far so good. Everyone has delivered to promise or where there's a slip they've let me know in good time.

Spend - we'll that's tough one but it must be around £6k, give or take a couple of hundred. Bought a load of the fixtures (Cables, Steering, Throttle arm, Instruments) from the US and saved a pile but it did take a while to get here. Did pull in a couple of favours which will have saved a bit as well.

As I said earlier the engine is a VRO and has yet to prove itself - so anyone got a newer 70-90 hop let me know I could be in for an early engine change.

i like the setup alot. im looking for seating for 5, as i posted in another thread. I should have my 5.4 in my possession soon.

what is the width of the steering helm?

what is the total width, or outside edge to outside edge of the two jockey seats. im trying to see if i could fit a bench.

No have to disagree, had a 70 on the back of a Ribtec 535. Did 36 mph for 4 gallons an hour. I thought that was quite economical. Seemed to be an ideal engine for that size of rib. I wonder how much the latest 4 stroke would actually save.

I must say there is room at a push for side by side jockeys at the back of the searider but finding a wide console and mounting it that far forward will give you very minimal room when squeesing through to the bow.

I Tried to go that direction my self, most of the commercially available consoles are at best, snug.

The picture is of the XS larger console, im not sure of its width but as you can see i have a bit of room to play with, but only 3 inchs on the starboard side
