Any surface drive boat isn't gonna be very small. You need two inboards to drive them, two sets of transmission, the drives themselves stick out about 4ft. Your not going to wrap that lot up in a 21ft hull. Your talking big, quick boats with this kind of set-up.

Crompton used to make ribs with surface drives-at least, when they sold the company assets there were a load of surface drives for sale.

You donīt need 2...and for smaller engines they are not so big...

One of the Hot Lemon's (Mike Deacon's boats) was a surface drive. IIRC it was a 8.5m Scorp with a 300hp diesel & trimax drive. Very fast but big problem with surface drives is that they are not trimmable. Also lousy manoeuverability in reverse!

I have pics on a 27foot rib with some kind of Surface Drives on it. But i canīt take pics to this computer....today. If you take arneson they are trimmable up and down...

And what about the 'Yellowfin' (Variable Surface Drive)? It arrived at one of the shows as 'the next big thing', offering efficiency, acceleration, speed increases, etc, and then nothing!!
It also boasted good manouverability at low speed (look at the vids on the website).

I don't expect that to be out just yet - still early days. There is already a german rival offering a similar system proving there is nothing really new and that patents are only as good as the lawyers who enforce them!!!

I believe that it was described as an 'alternative' to mercruiser drives. I assumed that this 'alternative' means that it's similar in price......
