Solent - Friday 7 September 2007

Just posting for my next cruise. No firm details as that depends on the weather, but will be out and about a week friday as long as its not heavy rain or gale force winds. Feel free to join me. Further details nearer the date.

Just be aware that Cowes will be rammed as it is the Little Britain Challenge Cup so 250 of the worst sailed yachts you've ever seen will be around.

is that around or aground? Based of previous I think Gurnard ledge would be my bet for at least 5 of 'em.

It IS based on previous experience, and I will be there again this year as my role is within the construction industry and I am a sailor. I find it embarrassing to attend a "London by the Sea" type event where the credibility of someones sailing "ability" is measured by the size of their boat (and chequebook!).

My favourite memory, from a few years ago, was a port/starboard incident with Sir Norman Foster (the famous architect). We were inside our 5 minute warning on a timed approach to the line, on starboard, when Sir Norm sailed clean through the fleet on port, not giving way to anyone, despite being some 30 minutes away from his preparatory signal! We had to take serious action and he seemed somewhat surprised that anyone would question his parentage or sailing ability!! Sums the event up I'm afraid.

From Southampton water to either Ventnor and then round island or Littlehampton or Poole. All depending on tides and sea state.

I should be working on my boat, but I'd like to put my hand up for a cruise if someone would have me as crew?

Looking good then. I am full up as regards jockey seats. I only have two of them. Sounds as though their are some spare places being offered though.
I shall be off Calshot at 1000 hrs with a full tank of fuel and some routes set in the GPS.
If the timings are not suitable please let me know.

Being a friday it should be pretty quiet as well.
