Diff locks, reversing cameras and toy tanks

The towbar on the Shogun is a proper bolt on jobbie, I even went for a heavy duty one that wouldn't look out of place spanning a river.

Its also there to protect my rear end from those that don't realise how good the brakes are

To be honest, apart from when a slip is so bad you can't even stand up on it, I haven't found an occasion where low range and both diff locks haven't got the car, boat and trailer up the slip or even over the beach.

The old 2.8TD I had didn't have the grunt of the 3.2TD, but having a seperate Chassis it did have a recovery eye welded direct to the chassis in a apature in the middle of the rear bumper. I do miss that sometimes. Mind you, my 3.2TD is probably one of the very few that ever selects its diff locks and ends up axle deep in mud, gravel etc. And all on Bridgestone Duelers.

I'm replacing it with a 4.2TD Amazon early next year, then we'll see what a tow car really is

Coil springs all round - actually a far better ride than something like a Warrior that still uses leaf!!!

Off road the Defender has a better ride than anything else I have driven - fancy new stuff with air springs are very harsh offroad - to get the ground clearance the springs are pumped up hard - which make for a very rough ride when off roading.

Doesn't look too pretty but in keeping with a Defender. Excellent picture quality - camera has a range of about 200' - used it inititally on a R/c tank - great fun!!!

I have a similar system wireless cctv camera powered by a 9v battery just stuck to back spoiler of shogun with industrial velcro (easy to remove camera when not in use) just linked to rear lcd monitor in car mounted on headrest which is just swung around so I can glance at it when I am reversing. two fold benefit - endless thomas the tank for the kids on journeys and no more dents to bumper for me when edging up to trailer when solo..... though my trailer currently does not have a hitch... see my other post... http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21073

Living in the States I am surpised you haven't converted it to .22" - be a great way of dealing with burglars!!!

I have the Imfamous Mitsi Deli and that has the best reversing system i have yet come accross a bloody great mirror on the back, it still amazes me with the ease of hitching up and quick glance whilst driving you can see all the hitch and jockey wheel

on the slip way lark i reversed down the slip at low water to recover in 2wd mode (rear drive) its an automatic so left in park with the hand break on and then the wife drove the rib on to the trailer, attached the winch to finish off, asked the missus to cut the engine, and the whole rig started to slide down the slip !!!

only when i dived into the car and stuck her in 4wd did it stop, thought the whole lot was going over the edge as only about 2ft to the Harbour channel then about 6ft drop straight down

consequently i always launch and recover in 4wd from now on !

22 absolutely a no-no. R/C and firearms do not mix. too dang. dangerouse eccept for the miltary of course.

It's because leaf springs are still the best for load carrying. Hence most vans and pickups have them - of course the yanks are late for everything as usual - even their sports cars have them - that went out with the early Capri in this country!!!

Is there an icon one can include to indicate "just winding you up" ?

Actually I take it all back. I had to change the wheel on mine yesterday. What a kerfuffle taking the spare wheel off is! So don't get a flat tyre on a motorway in an Amazon. I was in my driveway and it still took ages.

I have a variety of holes cut in RC toys for my wireless camera (I didn't manage to bag the bargain you did though!), but I have yet to get good results from the tank. An ongoing project, like the other half a hundred.

On a marine note, I was thinking of setting up a shop display of a Standard Horizon CP-300 (the on with the video in) and a fish tank with a small RC boat complete with wireless camera. Not as a toy you understand, but as a showcase for current technology.
