"Time Bandit" is on the way

My wife has decided that the new boat should be called Time Bandit. Mainly because of how much time I will spend on it and also it is the name of a boat from The Deadliest Catch which has to be one of the best things on Telly at the moment.

I am going for a new Vipermax 6.5 this is the spec for anyone who is interested...

HULL
White Hull, console & jockeys / Light grey non slip / Blue Tubes with Grey rubbing strake / Light grey wear patches / 150 litre underdeck tank

SEATING / CONSOLE
2 single Osprey Jockeys
Light grey upholstery with blue piping and inlay
Discovery console (offset 2")
Bolt patterns in the floor for rear bench seat or two more Jockeys

STAINLESS
Double 2" A-frame, wing back jockey backrests, Stainless Screen surround

ENGINE
Etec 150HP 20" with latest NMEA Gauges and GPS aerial!!
BRP Binnacle Throttle

ELECTRONICS
Lowrance LCX-27C 7" plotter / sounder
Icom 421
Bluesea Switch / breaker panel (6way)
Twin Odyssey AGM batteries
BEP 3 way battery switching cluster with VSR charging relay
Rule 1100 Auto Bilge Pump

All sat on a Dixon Bate R2B 61 Trailer

I have deliberately not gone for anything too weird or wonderful with the fit out as I want a boat that will appeal to most buyers so that if / when I come to sell it the idea is it will cater for most tastes. Hence the bolt patterns in the back rather than fixed seating, this way it could appeal to the family user (bench seat); long distance cruising in all weathers (Jockey seats); Wave Jumping with Matt H (Toilet)

I am initially not going to get any bench seats or jockeys for the back. I want to get some time on the boat before deciding what I want in the back seating wise.

I would appreciate any feedback from people who are familiar with similar set ups. The only area I have found a little hard to decide was on the console. The Osprey Ranger didn't do it for me and having seen the Discovery on the 7.5 meter ViperMax Roy was showing at Ribex I was quite taken with it. It may not be the best console for mounting instruments on but it looks good and to me that is really important.

Console-wise one of the nicest consoles I saw at Ribex was on the Ballistics however when I asked if they would sell one the answer was a resounding NO. I can see why..... it is an important part of any boat!!

I'm on my second Discovery console. It doesn't give the greatest protection (only the ugly barn door efforts do) but, is one of the best looking consoles around. If well laid out, it'll take all the instruments required.

Hi

I went for a Outhill CC18/FS as I wanted to be able to walk around it, without standing on the tubes (Hugh had his mounted to one side so he could walk past on one side)
It's low so very little protection but we have musto's and helmets for those days the Outhill is ok but not a lot of meat in the fibreglass I put a lot of extra ply and fibreglass in mine

Best bits of advice I had
1/ have the extra Knee's in the transom
2/ have under floor trunking on both sides

Second all of that. I also went for an Outhill, and likewise I have put a lot of additional marine ply/fibreglass in mine. Unlike James I have gone for a screen on mine, don't want the little ones getting blown away

Good idea, I think you will find a little note on the Outhill website saying they are only suitable for Cat C and D, thats like canals and lakes isn't it

Looks like a great spec.

I love the name "Time Bandit" but it doesn't originate with the trawler on telly. Have a look at the film Time Bandits - it's awesome!!!

What a day! set off at 5am for dixon bate in North Wales got there at 7.30, then on to collect the boat from the Osprey factory nr Warrington got there at 9.30, then back to Marine Fabrications in Staffordshire to get the Aframe then stopped off at Ospreys head office in Wolverhampton so that Roy could take the piss out of me fussing about where to drill the holes for the engine. Got back to Gloucestershire at 5.30pm and then decided to go and fit the engine at my freinds workshop where I had left the engine. Finally dropeed the boat off at the barn at 9.00.
