I think the video a mate of mine took viewed through the winscreen of an airliner when he was training to be a pilot beats it on the waiting for something exciting to happen .

It isn't intended to be a fun video, more a documentary recording a record.

Who wants to try and do the same course in less time / higher average ? He did it at 54 knots but there are quicker boats on here.

I don't read / speak french very well , but is that boat in the vidio the record holder , or just the only boat to have tried it .

What exactly is the record that has been set/broken, as does it have any official standing?

Probably not, no.

The information is here : http://www.sasproconcept.com/defiwest/accueil.html

Basically a course is set out between Brest and Lorient, 90,62 nautical miles, and the objective is for people to come and try and beat it. Some categories have been set out but they may be changed as people start entering.
