Just wondering if there are any winter projects in the works?

My self I plan to repaint and reseal the hull and possibly change out my console and bench seat.

On another note what do people think about the Brig 500L? I have searched the forum but really no good feedback on them.

There is a dealer out of Cali that can have one shipped to me for $8900.00 with the bench seat, console/seat and the navigational arch.

Thoughts? Photos? Experience with the hull design?

I've got a SR5.4 that needs completely refurbing, new tubes console, transom knuckles etc. I'll post dome photos tonight.

I finally decided to strip out the interior of my Explorer 600 and do a sport offshore set up. My Yam 120 is going in my shop for the winter and getting done over completely even though it looks and runs like new inside out. Lot's of machine shop time coming ahead this winter for the power head.

The center console, seating and rigging I fabricate all myself as well. Just put the boat away 2 weeks ago and already missing it.

Photos below of the SR5.4 I recently bought for £120!
All it came as was a hull, no trailer, console engine a frame or out else like that.

Should keep me entertained for a while.

My main concern is reinforcing the transom with proper knuckles like most RIBs have.

Seariders don't need them-unless you're planning to add knees instead of the support struts that should be there.

Don't think mine came with any, I'd prefer two solid bits of fibreglass anyway seen as though most of the boat needs doing.

I want to get the sponsons cleaned up to remove all of the oxidation and dead pigment. I was thinking about using those Mr. Clean magic erasers and then saturating the sponsons with 303. The boat takes a beating from the sun here in FL and the cover is too worn out to do much good. The fiberglass needs to be worked on too. I can't complain too much since it is the original tube set (1998).

Ex Navy 19' Nautica refit. The boat is gray tubes on gray hull and deck. The new console and Light arch/ leaning seat will be in black with all new electronics, lights and controles...

I'll get some before and after pictures...

has anyone cut the deck out of a 19' Nautica to replace the fuel tank? I have a leak and it's not the lines.

my project in the works, 1977 Avon 5.4SR, installed trunks, center consule, temperary motor 35HP merc., GPS/depth finer, upgraded to a galvi trailer and just general cleanup. Plan on upgrading motor to a 90hp, building a two person jockey seat with storage,and adding a VHF marine radio. Boat will do 25 mph with the lil tiller control 35hp mec with two in it so hope for a bit more with the future hp upgrade. Boat had been sitting for five years as a future project when the previous owner decided to sell, some one in the past also had plugged the water ballast system and the last owner had opened them up. As it sits have less then $2k in it now so I cannot complain

. Will be used mainly for diving, fishing, crabbing/clamming and just running around.

Hey No Excuses!

Was that the Avon on Craigslist a while back? I remember seeing for sale for around $1200.00 I was tempted, but I need a RIB that will fit in my garage and that is limited to 16' feet for me.

It will be interesting to see your progess on it.

yep, that was the one and I paid the $1200 for it also. I was there withen a couple of hours after he listed it. While I was looking at it he had 2 or 3 other people calling about it. Came with two air pumps, electric and manual, bunch of spare material ect ect. Tubes will leak down over a couple of weeks and have to freshen them up but for a weekend of playing they do great. current motor is tiller steer that I picked up for $75 and runs like a champ so it will work for a while. It should work for a while in the sound and local bays for diving and what not just so long as I do not get in a big hurry lol. Not sure what it will do with three or four people and gear but hoping it will get up and plain out at least.

a few updated pics, have installed the the marine radio,hummingbird 580 GPS/depth sounder, 1991 yamaha 90hp two stroke and steering. Having a two person aluminum jockey seat being built, have the material to cover it, as soon as it gets done will order the cushin and then take it to a buddies and have his wife cover it. Seat will hold a 12 gallon tank up in the front and going to place a devider in it to have storage in the back. Still have to build small A frame and seat back, then will ship them out to be powder coated.

It looks like the Avon is coming along nicely. I got my AB torn down now, and I just need to make a motor stand. Hopefully I can it that part done this week. I will have to build one from scratch.

I have got the deck and hull painted. I have also replaced my kicker with a short shaft 3.3 HP Merc. There is definitely more room between my main engine and the kicker. Now it will not drag when I am on a plane.

This Friday I am going to re power and either get a new 50 HP 2-stroke or 40 HP 4-stroke to keep within the same weight category. But I am lost on which motor to get? Any suggestions? I know all about the 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke debate, but the decision is definitely a difficult one and it is a lot of money.

The 4-stroke will be about 1K more, but it will have a 5 year warranty instead of 3 with the 2-stroke. Is the warranty alone worth it over time or the gas savings in the long run.

Help!
