Right well since i'll make my voice heard if i'm not happy with a service, i'll also compliment someone who gives great service.

I was looking all over the place to get some rope for the boat. I decided on 13mm Navy Dockline as it seemed to suit what I wanted. Got in touch with Boatropes ( eBay UK Shop - Yacht ropes: Anchorplait, Boat ropes, Parelli ) and asked for a quote

I wanted the following:
9m line with splice at the end
7m line with splice at the end
6m line with splice at the end

Total would be £51 including the £11 P+P airmail to Ireland. I was delighted when package arrived and see that the postage alone was £10.81 - Often been overcharged postage to Ireland with the seller nabbing a bit of extra cash from it

When the ropes arrived I was really pleased with the quality of the work carried out. See for yourself:

See the last pic, amazing hand-work IMHO. He accepts PayPal and has very good communication which is important to me.

I think he does more rope than he has on eBay so if you're after new rope, do your research and drop him an e-mail for a quote. I found him considerably cheaper than other UK outlets

those should last for many years with that work

I agree - I bought my anchor ropes from him back in 2006 - awesome service - nice to see he is still around!!!

Don't forget to wash them every time they get salt water on them.

Persil non-bio worked well on mine

Always used Lux pure soap flakes on climbing ropes - doesn't damage the everdry coatings.

If it were me, I wouldn't use that on my boat - I'd hang it on the wall, it is truly a work of art.

That's the problem, don't wanna get them all dirty now

They won't be used until next season anyhow

This thread reminded me that I indeed needed some new ropes, so after taking my son to see WallE at Port Solent I popped into PortSolent Marine Superstore. I clocked some rather handy hanks of 12mm in high quality black multi pait rope in a £10 per hank box. Took them to the till where the cashier sold them to me for £10 for the pair. I've just measured them to see that they are both 13 meters long.....26 meters for a 10er. What a result!

Just recieved a bunch of ropes from him, on original posters recommendation.

10x8mmx2 mtr soft eye one end (same rope as original picture)
2x14mmx7mtr again finished as pictures in original post.

£80 inc the postage.

and he was easy to deal with.

First Class.

Andy, just a precautionary note,

There was a lot of seemingly good quality rope at the twice yearly boat jumble we get up here. I bought 40mtrs of rope with very similar dimensions to your new buy and cut it up for mooring lines. It was a mistake, the rope had almost a laughable resistence to abrasion.

We nearly lost the rib when a fairly blunt part of a peir cut through one rope in a matter of 30min. We returned after some sherberts to find the boat only secured by one line (by luck it was blowing offshore) . I'm now a firm believer in the "you get what you pay for with ropes" I'm not saying you have what I bought..but mine looked good to me at the time..

now I'll use it for towing just not mooring.

Yup he had great communication, a key factor with me when buying 'overseas'. Next purchase i'm going to be asking him for a decent discount though

Thanks for your concern. I've cut and spliced the rope and it appears to be of a suitable quality, certainly as good as the lines I have used for a good few years, just in black. They had a reel of the same line on the rack too and I'm sure it was Marlow rope.
