Bearing descriptions - some advice

Hi guys, planning on getting some new bearings for the trailer, going to order online and was after some advice. The bearing cone/cup combi for my inner bearings is 48548/48510. Looking at several websites I see you can get them with A, X and C suffixes. Any idea what the differences are?

You can also get "budget" and "branded" bearings, it it worth paying more for the branded ones. I plan to replace them on a regular basis long before the wheels fall off!!

Cheers,

Mark

Same inner bearing as mine. I also saw some suffixes but couldn't remember what the conclusion was...

Couple of places where I've got mine from:

http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/taper_choice.php

http://www.trailertek.com (I use kit BRG126 http://www.trailertek.com/cgi-bin/ss...N=quick+search)

Just ordered 4 sets from trailertek. They are generally Timken or NTN bearings (reasonably good quality) and do the job fine. Normally I replace them every year anyway (in fact last year I had to replace one after 6 days due to failed oil seal so recconed there is no point in going for super expensive - if salt gets in there they are destroyed anyway!)

I use these guys for bearings for work www.bearing-king.co.uk they often have bearings that others cannot get hold of, not sure how the prices stack up against ebay etc, but might be worth a look.

Unless you have a braked trailer I suggest you get a NEW Hub.
Changing a hub takes 10 minutes changing the bearings could take hours. Getting the shells out of the hub is a time consuming, head wrecking job!

sorted....

Tino, my trailer is a breaked jobbie so I'm just after the bearings. I replaced the whole hubs on my old trailer which was unbreaked though i only replaced them once in 10 years as it wasn't towed more than 200 yards on the public road.
Just ordered a set from Bearing-king.co.uk for less than £30 for both sides with seals.

Western towing wanted over £50 and trailer tek not for off that. Locally I was looking at about £60. Thanks for the suggestion Geoffs
