Vestmannaeyjar to Faroe Islands

First leg was completed this morning when the boats and crew members arrived at Hofn at 10 this morning (Friday) as they left Vestmann Island at 00.30. The cruise took about 9 1/2 hours. The trip went well although the got all samples of sea levels, worst to start with but further out they went the weather got better. After one hour cruise one crew decide to return and came back safe to Vestmann Islands.

The cruise continued towards Faroe Islands. They departed Hofn at 20.20 hours tonight (GMT). There are 4 ribs and one fishing boat, which is a Cleopatra a display boat on sales and introduction tour in Faroe Islands.

The weather is north westerly breeze. They contacted two fishing vessels Guðmund and Alsey which are located midway between Iceland and Faroe Islands and the weather is about the same. So all looking good. Cruise at the moment is 15 ö 16 knoths and if they maintain that speed ETA should be around noon tomorrow (Saturday GMT).

If you like to follow their track one boat has SPOT on board and the link is:
http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...yMT1pyxEbiiamu

I will update this thread regularly until my depart to Canada on Monday but after that as often as I get connected to the Internet. Same goes with updating photos.

Just been checking on them on SPOT tracking website and they are still on sea, so the cruising speed has been considerably lower than anticipated

Here is the tracking:
http://share.findmespot.com/shared/f...yMT1pyxEbiiamu

The biggest rib in this cruise is Zodiac Pro 15 (6.3 metre)

At 14:50, (GMT)they group finally arrived at Faroe Islands. Now they need to cruise down the channel between the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy as when crossed north turn will be taken to the first stop point which is the town of Runavik.

The trip has been very difficult and has taken on every crew member, as the sea conditions where not at its best. Difficult waves all the way although with following sea. Average speed was 15 knoths (but went down to 8 knoths at times). Although many Icelandic trawlers are in the area we only saw one and that was a trawler from Faroe Islands which was about 100 miles out of Faroe Islands.

The group has finally arrived at Runavik, ETA time was 17.00 (GMT). On the pier where bunch of people to welcome the seafarers. All crew members were pleased this episode of the adventure is completed, there where exhausted but pleased crew members the most difficult part is completed and ahead is shorter and more pleasent trips to various cities throughout Faroe Islands.

Stories and pictures from the cruising across the Atlantic will be published here as soon as they crew have rest and sorted out photos in a computer.

Hats off to an incredible journey that hasn't yet finished. Having made that journey several times by ferry, I can only say that I am stunned and amazed that such a crossing would be made by ribs like this.

Skippers and Crew... well done and good luck for the next leg!

Good morning.

Now we are back on our feet in Runavik after good night sleep. To my knoeledge everyone is their best shape after yesterday´s cruising, as we are very well fit.....

Hopefully we will receive schedule of activities from people here in Runavik and will bring further news on that as well as writing more detailed report on the cruise itself to put on here.

Following is a brief selection of photos taken enroute.

More to come.....

On attached photo part of the group can be seen on board the SAR vessel of Bjargingafelags Norðoya.

The group were take and showed the highest seacliff in the world 754 metres high, after the cruise we went back to Klaksvik and upon arrival we went to the chirch. The SAR team is now hosting a dinner at Vidareydi which is in 15 minutes drive from Klaksvik. Everyone is enjoying the hospitality.

One report for the night (was sent last night)

The group has moved places and are now staying in two yachts which are laying in the harbour. The facilities are good and people are pleased with this change of accomodations. The picture is of one of the yacht and her name is "Nordlysid" and we believe it means Northern Light (Aurora Borealis)

Good night and more later.
