Evinrude 250hp E-Tec Problems

Does anybody here have any experience of problems with this engine?
A friend of mine is having serious problems with his 2007 model (250 hours).

Problems such as excessive oil consumption and stalling.
He also has noticed wear around the propshaft which would suggest movement.

The dealer has been informed about these problems and is offering very little satisfaction.

Has anybody any experience dealing with Evinrude directly?

Nope. Who's the dealer? It's still under warranty.

Yes has 6 months left on warranty and Marine Motors in Cork supplied the engine.

He has very little faith in this engine now as he was caught out in West Cork over the weekend until after midnight with his wife and 2 kids onboard after the engine refused to go above 6 knots.

If he's lost faith in the dealer then a phone call to BRP might well help him track down another suitable dealer.

He has spoken to BRP and they refuse to accept that there is a problem with this engine and they are insisting on him returning his boat to the dealer for inspection.

When his warranty runs out next year he will have no come-back.

Surely somebody else has experience of problems like this.

He needs to find a decent dealer. I am not sure of who is any good in Ireland however if he speaks to BRP I am sure they would recommend one. Otherwise it might be worth him talking to Redbay as I am sure they fit E-tecs and may know of which dealers are worth bothering with.?
