Hi Steve, are you sure Red is such a good colour at night? I know why you want it as it'll reduce night blindness but might confuse other boats with regards the nav lighting.

There are loads of different types of lighting around which all look good, but expensive. Have you thought of mounting individual LED lights at equal spacings down the pods. These will be much cheaper to buy and less invasive as you only have to drill 6mm or 8mm holes to accomodate the lamps and have them Sikaflexed in place.

I would imagine running the wiring around the seat pods to be your biggest problem as I guess it'll all have to be under deck.

Rest assured that they will be mounted very low on the seat pods and not visible to other shipping. I was looking at some LED step lights, 3 on each side of the long pods.

I cant seem to find any marine LED lights for sale in marine outlets! A google search brings up garden decking

C Quip, have a look on line, they might not deal direct but i'll get them for you if you want

I have blue deck lights which aid boarding etc at night but we do not run with them on, They are at low level by deck and light the flooring area, Even these lights would affect your night vision but great if stopped or getting kit out or boarding etc- you would see the blue glow from outside the boat if I left them on whilst running , I will dig out either images or what we have fitted later today for you

I've had loads of failures with the C Quip ones, which are cheap copies of Hellas, EC Smith is the place to go...

I attach the image looking along the inside of craft showing size an location of my lights which then reflect on white seating pods and display floor at night , as said only when not running, I will try to find their make shortly

Thanks for feedback, just ordered some from these guys who were most helpful and a great price. Like Ian they are for show and to help whilst stationary and will not be used while running at night.

All I need is some time to start fitting all the kit .....

We have fitted red flush mount LED lights to both our old saily boat and RIBs, they are great - plenty of light but nothing retina scouring.



They are 16 squids each. Totally waterproof.

This is the only photo I have of the LED's in one of our 770's, as you can see they are red and cannot be seen directly by anyone inside the boat without crouching down almost to the floor.

Seahawk V had LED dark Blue along each side under the tubes and these I got from Timage. Red is not a good colour

loadsa cheapie versions on flea bay which are allegedly waterproof as they are sold for blinging up your chavmobile

we had a go at something like them, the trouble is when one goes you have to change the lot, had a look at there site, got some good stuff

I've got a couple of these waiting to go on mine. I bought them from a local bike shop. They already have wires coming out of them so should be easier to keep waterproof than the solder it yourself types.

i went through this, lots of expensive stuff on the market - ended up buying some blue ones (off the net but they sell them at halfords) at about £5! they do the job, mounted in the lower rear of the seat pods and console. sealed in with sikka to waterproof them. blurry picture attched but you get the idea!

Only just remembered to catch up with this thread.

I did go with red LED's (sorry Andre) and I am very happy with results. Have used them in anger a number of times now, with customers out at night to watch the fireworks. They do not interfer with the crews night vision, but add comfort for the passengers.

I even managed to fit them without in holes in deck and some "easy" cable runs.
