Just started one myself. ring 17.3foot gto.
However the tube will fit at 150mm with a 210ltr fuel tank.

The transom has been cut to take a extra long Engine.
Does yours have a long planning pad.?

350mm may be a little high for the tubes

The Ring 20 was designed a specific way and for a specific purpose. By taking away the deck you are taking away a lot of its rigidity and strength.
The hull was designed for racing and is a light lay up with regards the GRP and stiffening.
By messing about with a specific design you may well be putting peoples lives at risk if you then take it out to sea with 300hp strapped to the rear end.

Its a bit like owning a Ferrari and then deciding to cut the roof off because its a sunny day and you want a convertible.

If you want a Ring RIB go for one that was designed and built as a RIB.
IMHO

I've only ever heard good things about Pauls work and he is on my list for when I need a re-tube.

Henshaw website is showing RING 8.2 & 8.6m tubes that could fit with some tweaking by them ....

http://www.henshaw.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.161

A good point made about the weakening the boat by chopping bits out ......

Thanks PeterM...
Sonar: I've looked the water level on the hull ... 30cm
For me 15cm is not enough

To Mr AC thanks for your advise ...
The boat will be reinforce everywhere ... At the moment the boat has 260bhp no stress cracks no problem ... ( used in promo race in belgium )
My oncle made 2 rib by himself ... 1 was 6.00m and the other is a hull off a Phantom 20" the GRP is 3mm ... 200 bhp no stress no cracks ( north sea)

The other problem you may have is insurance, not sure any company will want to insure a home build with large amounts of hp on the back.

I am sure you would let them know it was built by yourself and not by Ring Powercraft.

No harm in having a go and doing it yourself, after all its no different to splashing a hull and sticking tubes on it.
At least if you do it yourself you might make a half decent job of it.

'No harm in having a go' - until the hull delaminates one side and steers the boat into another boat or swimmer causing death.

'No harm in having a go' - until the thing fulls to bits whilst out in the north sea.

'No harm in having a go' - to Ring Powercraft who get associated with whatever is produced.

'After all its no different to splashing a hull' - Because splashing a hull has never hurt anyone has it!!

Sorry if you have miss understood -

I have never accused you of splashing.
However although you may have owned a very nice looking original R20 the fact that it has now had its top deck cut off it is now no longer an original Ring.
Ring Powercraft would probably not want it called a Ring and have any markings saying such removed.

All the best with the project.

If you wish to come over and enter this years Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat race it will be good to see you and then you can try and catch up with me.

What I'm getting at is if he wants he could make a good job out of it. From what I can make out different RIB manufacturers have so far had transom failures, hulls fail near the bow and tubes part company at the bow.
If you have a quick search on here you'll see another member having problems with transom knees that have cracked, again made by a RIB manufacturer, not a homebuild.
I can't see anyone with a bit of common sense associating any future failings (if there is any) with Ring.
When you build a kitcar and some one writes it off you don't go back to the donor car manufacturer nor is it a reflection on the donor car manufacturer.
