Connecting VHF to GPS

Hello, just helping my mate fit his HDS 5 plotter and LVR 250 VHF, all fitted and working fine but cant get the VHF to connect to the GPS?

Has any one fitted the above or can any one give any guidance on connecting VHF to GPS?

There are 4 coloured wires on GPS, yellow, orange, blue and green. There are 5 colours on VHF, the same 4 as GPS plus black.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have access to the manuals as the colours should correspond to nmea +&- etc...

Yes, have both manuals but when you connect as instructions it doesn't work.

Looked through the book to see if I have to enter a code or something for the connection to work but can't see anything.

Got the + going to - on each.

It's not necessarily a matter of connecting + to -. You should only need three wires. Usually the black or unsheathed wires are connected together as they are the -'ve or ground. You then need to connect the NMEA out or tx lead from the radio onto the NMEA in or rx on the plotter, and then likewise the vhf in or rx onto the plotter tx or out wire.

Got the unsheathed wires together.

The book says connect 4 wires which I've done but the VHF is still asking for manual input?

Colours of wires are yellow, orange, green and blue.

From VHF
Yellow to orange
Blue to green

From GPS
Orange to yellow
Green to blue

I assume your GPS is receiving a signal, ie it's not in a building which blocks out the sat signal?

Got it.

Had to go back in to network - device settings - reset factory settings - automatic find - and that was it, done.

Thanks for all your help.
