Applaud good work

As many have said it is good to get a good service and also good work, no exception again here with one of our forum members Biffer who has done some great work with our training RIB.
1. Moved the liferaft from laying flat behind the jockey seat to upright by the anchor locker and made the additional supports. (Has rebalanced the RIB at speed and better weight distribution and given us more room)
2. Constructed to measure a transom shield to raise the transom to meet some MCA coding needs and also to provide a better transom height for the trainees when using the craft in reverse or when coming off the plain fast on man overboard proceedure training where a back wash can hit the boat. The image I hope shows the work and fit along with a wash tube within
3. Other electrical work, compasses, and repairs

We used the boat today for an RYA review and the inspector was also very pleased.

really nice to know there are people who take a pride in their work and deliver what they have agreed. I like the transom shield and have been looking at ways to do something similar with my Ribcraft as it is a PITA up here in the west!1 Can you give away any secrets, is it flexible does it interfer with the tilt?
Any news would be welcome.

The shield is fibreglass which is bolted and screwed to transom (made from scratch with moulds) but can be taken off if needed but would take a little time. Biff has made provission for the steering cables on one side and also the steering bar on the other side. It is solid but light and does not interfere with the main steering operation. You can see on the engine up position due to the cabling we need to hold the engine to one side so a little care needed on full lift up but no issues to trim in use. I am sure Biff will be along soon to put right my mistakes and explain what exactly he did

thanks for the pat on the back Ian, you've just about summed it up, this is the second mould i've made for doing the same job, no two boats are the same so getting the moulding to fit other boats will take a bit of juggling but it's not hard to sort out and worth that extra piece of mind knowing you're not going to be ankle deep in water when you least expect it

Hey Biffer

That looks like a nice neat job. We have just that problem when our "petite" dive members insist on kitting up holding onto the A frame.

Could you pm me if you'd be interested in knocking up another one and an idea of the cost?

Cheers

i'd love too, but the chances are it wouldn't fit, to get that right on Ian's boat i had to chop off the original fitting lip, scribe it round the steering and put another lip on it, as i said i've a couple of moulds, if you want to send me a pic and some measurements i'll have a look at helping you,( this offer goes to Jambo as well ) failing that it's a long drive down with you're boat.

Tx Biffer the only problem I have is that I am 160 miles away from my boats winter storage. It is a standard 1997 Ribcraft with the step down clean except for the engine saddle, a 150 V6 mariner, there are no other stuff in the road. IOf that helps at all.

don't help too much, it's got hydraulic steering which helps, but you'll have to get some measurements when you can, the longer mould might help you but as with Ian's the knee's got in the way

Thx Biiffer,

I'll get a picture or two and see if you think it might work for us.Hauling her about isn't a problem living in the Midlands you do tend to get used to it!!

It'll take a little while for me to get them as the boat is at someone elses house but I'll get back to you when I have them.

Cheers

Transom shield / Splash guard

Here is an updated image of the whole transom shield, the water flush tube cannot be seen as it is on the transom behind the cabling
