Hi all I have just taken a boat as part ex on a race car that I had but trying to find more info about it . Aprarentlybits a heading mobo 22 jet boat. I know it used to have a Volvo tamd 40 on it as to the tags on the boat . But it has now got a v8 rover petrol engine in it

Just trying to find out exactly what it is and also what type ofbjet drive it has got

Here is a pic for it hopefully it will shed some light

Welcome to ribnet.

Sorry I can't be any help with the ID, but someone on here will recognise it. Interesting change of power plant. I'd be curious to know if the drive has been re- geared or a whacky impeller been fitted, as I would think a petrol engine would rev a bit higher than the Volvo oil burner.

The Rover V8 is a pretty low revving engine with the torque peak well down the rev range - the 4.0 in my Discovery peaks at about 2500/2600rpm and I think peak power is at 4750. Most modern petrol engines will have a torque peak around 4000rpm.

Hate to think what the fuel consumption would be like though ... I love the V8 but it's thirsty enough in something with wheels

thanks reply got got it running all ok now.

does anyone know anything about heat exchangers. its go a sabre heat exchanger i know it draws sea water too cool down existing coolant in the tank etc. but what drives the exchanger to suck water from bottom of the hull . as its no drawing any water in and cant seem to see any sort of pump?

hi, Jets normally use some of the water that is being pumped through the jet ( which is constantly turning when engine running) and diverts it through to the cooling system. so unless you have it sitting in water, or find the takeoff tube from the jet, best not to run it, if you find the takeoff tube, just connect a garden hose down to it.

the other post are just about right, you can run it for a while as there is no sea water impeller to burn out, the water pick up is just inside the pressure nozzle and the pipe will come out inside the boat about halfway up the jet unit, take that pipe off and connect it to a hose, make sure the water is on full blast then you can run it for longer, has the rover got carbs or injection on it also has it got water jacket exhausts

The engine is carb model and it has got water fed onto manifold with risers on it

it's oldish then, it's going to be about 150hp

difficult one without looking, i'm assuming there's a small propshaft coupling and no gearbox on the back end.
i'd just look around until something crops up, you've got to look at something like that and ask yourself is it worth converting or just get it going properly and have a play, if something came up cheap, but that hardly happens, you know what it's like with cars, is it worth doing?, will you do your money?, would i get a return out of it?, no, i'm for getting it going and having a play

Looking for something that is going to be reliable engine , the current engine is in good condition but wiring need to be replaced and probably a marine carb fitted as think still got normal rover carbs ,

Ye jet system is a prop from flywheel without box

I have removed engine and all wirring to do full restoration on this boat. Engine is in great condition internally as it looked a bit dirty on the outside. Full gasket set ordered and marine carb ordered .

Also it has Hamilton jet drive
