8m Ribtec with a Yam 240 6 cylinder engine in it. Big heavy engine with a big prop mounted a the back of a narrow hull. Result was an interesting drive to say the least. Put the power on from standstill and the bow came up and the boat steered hard over. Reduce speed from 20 knots to walking speed and the hull steered hard over the other way. It was quite possible to drive this boat without even touching the steering wheel, just by playing with the throttle. As a side note altering the trim made little difference so it wasn't that causing the problem.

Just glad it wasn't my £30+k that had been spent on this rib or it would have been straight back to the manufacturers. Boat looked very pretty on the pontoon, but I declined the offer to take it out of the River Itchen into Southampton Water.

Looks like an interesting concept, but I'm not convinced that having that much weight that far back would actually be an advantage! Have you tried one?

Any idea of pricing?

The JetPac weighs nearly twice as much as a 150hp 4-stroke outboard, which in itself is quite a heavy lump to put on a 6.5m RIB!

There's got to be more to it than that. There are plenty of RIBs this size running this sort of engine with no reported handling issues. Was it an installation/rigging problem?

Boat belonged to a former Ribtec employee so you would have thought he would have got it right. Didn't see the boat out of the water so can't comment on the transom or rigging and engine bay was just black with oil. Might have been an outboard rib converted I suppose, however hull did look very narrow, like a 6m rib with 2m tacked on the back end.

i own a 7.5 meter rib with 2x240 yamahas in it and it handle,s fine so dont understand how an 8 meter rib cant take it from one engine,

With a twin engine instalation it would be running counter rotating props, so torque would be cancelled out by the other prop,

Hi Tonkabut your boat was designed for sturdiness and to handle the power The Hull probably weighs a ton more than the hull in the original question! I can understand you mentioning having a Delta with twin 240's I'd be shouting about it from the roof tops if it were mine.

My favourite rib so far was /is Jim Mac's 'Still Deep one' wonderful boat and very well put togetherI think that was an 8.5 delta with twin yammies.

The ribtec ws a 7.5 by the way

Heavy hull or not, thats still hell of a lot of weight to have in the stern of a 7.5m RIB.

I guess the working space under the hood is very confined. Do you find it difficult to do maintenance and repairs etc?

it is a little heavy at the stern but i just keep the diving gear uo forward plus she carries 160 gallons of fuel so that keeps her down as well as for working space in engine bay , all i can say is you need a thin arm.

It's just that someone told me (on here actually) that Delta don't sell to private individuals which I can't believe, but I'm askin' anyhoo!

I've heard that Delta wont supply to non-commercial people also but in this months RIB International, the couple who are featured and live in Scotland (i believe) have a 7m Delta which, from the photos looks pretty newish to me; so who knows?

I guess if the boat was bought under a business name rather than an individuals, it makes it a commercial sale right?

So, you could own a florists and still have a RIB from them as a commercial customer. If they questioned it, you could say that it was for shipping flowers back and forth to an island or something (commercial business????)

i bought it second hand but although delta dont sell to the private punter the rib was built for private use and has only ever been used privately although i would say when he got it built it was built for off shore use,
