That loudmouth Jon Fuller from BoatMad reckons that you've splashed that boat and it's not your design at all!

I've got a £10 bet with him that you're legit -- after all you wouldn't come on here shouting about your own design if you'd nicked it -- so can you do me a big favour and post some pictures of the plug to shut him up?

Thanks

John

How can anyone tell anyway??? Some subtle changes can make all the difference. it is also possible for 2 people to come up with the same design quite independently!!!

Thank you to all out there taking an interest in my rib, YES MY RIB, MY DESIGN..
just because the planning hull is already in existence does this mean my boat is a copy?? I am pi*!£d of with people saying
"that looks like a tohatsu",
"that looks like a scorpion",
"that looks like a ring",
"that looks like a evolution",
"looks like a ferryman",
"looks like a tornado" e.c.t e.c.t BLAH BLAH BBBBLLLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHH

ok it will look a bit like lots of boats in some ways because they are all made to do the same thing, just some do it better(mine ).

I know for a fact my rib may have a couple of features used from a selected few well known boats(as does most). but I am happy to say she is 95% my design/creation and there is not another like her.

all this bull SH*T came from jonny (who has edited boat mad to cover his story) and if JONNY you feel I have stolen your design see you in court WAN*ER!!!!!!

I can't remember saying it was my design you'd stolen!

And frankly, the people who own the design in question, aren't the type to involve the courts, if you know what I mean! so your use of that language probably wont do you any good.....Fabio.

Calm down! There's no need to throw a hissy fit -- just prove him wrong and shut him up.

Leeway

Having looked at a few hulls in my time they all pretty much look the same to me, but then again it isn't my thing.

How much improvement can one make to a hull design that differentiates itself on the water.

Cheers

Mark

I'm a little confused by that statement, as the running surface is IMHO the most important part of any vessel, and it's obviously the bit that you've stolen, shouldn't you be saying that your rib is 5% your design.

And anyhow, there's nothing wrong with cheating, it's being caught cheating that's wrong.

from the way i see it, if you dont look at other designs and want to design a rib with hull for varying sea states, with tubes, any design with have similarities to another, especialoly nowadays when you have so many rib manufacturers out there. this guy has gone to design a rib so he gets exactly what he wants from his boat rather than a compromise by buying anothers design, he will have tweaked things that he didnt like with ideas of his own, if i could do it i would!!! would like to see more pictures of the boat, especially when its finnished!!!

There aren't many people who blame the Wright brothers for stealing other people's ideas - and yet all they did was to be the first to couple an engine to an airframe - they did NOT invent engines and they didn't invent the principles of aircraft either!!!

To design a hull from scatch is one completely different ballgame compared to 'splashing' a mould. Even if you modify the original boat that you are 'splashing', that is still quite different to a new design. When designing a new hull , sure at a glance it may look similar to another boat, take a hard look at the figures its not. You have lots of different variables to consider, and it is realistically only able to be done by a proffesional designer.

A designer can obviously look at other boats and try to take some ideas from them and that is how alot of vessels evolve, but that is not copying.

Dont forget that after the design has been done, the build would then start with a very accurate plug being made from a set of frames (these drawn up from a table of offsets), then the plug moulded over to produce the production female mould.

What is a damn sight easier is for a builder to get a hull, distort it with an acrow props in the middle or towards the transom (thus widening it) etc, add or remove spray rails, round chines , shorten / lengthen it change the shape of the transom etc, making it quite a different boat, but realstically it has not been anywhere near a drawing table. Then whip the mould off - and hey presto a new boat. Even this is hard work , but not nearly at all the same as designing a boat.
