Osprey Eagle

Having sold Morpheus in a bid to find something a little cheaper to run, I have found a 5.6m Osprey Eagle. It has a 90hp Yamaha, and a hard nose . Has anyone had any experience with em, and can tell me a bit about its hull and how it handles rough water and what sort of ride it would give? Does the hard nose affect the handling or compromise deck space?

good boats been out in them a few times a couple of friends used to own one a few years ago only problem was in a following sea you had to watch she didnt punch into wave in front as the hard nose is quite low to the water apart from that id say they were well built boats.. goood luck

My former boat was a Osprey Sparrowhawk, same construction but 0.4m shorter.
Made some long range trips with her in heavy seas, very strong made and surefooted hull.
A little wet when its going rough and deck space in the front is narrow.

I have a sparrowhawk, I believe the eagle is a lengthened version of the same hull.
I like the hard nose as it gives extra dry storage and allows you to cut into a head sea without worrying about tubes being torn off. Maybe some people just dont like the look of them. The boat is strongly built although the finish is a bit rough. Heard some stories about burying the bow in a following sea but this only happens if the boat is very badly trimmed. The sparrowhawk tends to wobble from side to side when at rest and is a bit narrow but otherwise handles well for its size. Maybe Im a bit biased! Be interested to hear some other opinions.

Great boats and probably handle better than most boats of similar size, good soft ride in lumpy seas and as for the nose i would say if anything it punches through waves superbly with no fears of ripping the tubes off the bow section, true you do lose a little space in the bow but it can be used for storage.

We have a 5.5 or 5.6 Eagle as one of our club boats with a 75 Mariner on it it goes well with 4 divers and 2 crew. Agree with the fear of nose burying in a following sea it feels like it might but I have not done it yet. There are quite a few about, some with hatches cut into the hard nose to make a small locker. Not as dry as the 5.5 Delta her sister club boat.

The biggest flaw with the early Eagles and Sparrowhawks is that there is only one air chamber per side. One puncture and you've lost the whole tube.

Found a Sparrowhawk though with a 60hp . Just need some time to go and see it.
