15hp 2 stroke
Hello
I'm looking for an old(ish) 15hp 2 stroke engine for going out to sea as my 5hp just hasn't got the grunt for it!
I'd love to have £1250 to spare to buy a shiny 2006 Yam but realistically I only have £600ish to spend.
Please let me know of anything around my budget, I don't mind if it's scruffy (I expect it will be for that money) so long as it runs ok and will get a few of us on the plane in my 3.3m SIB. I'm keeping an eye on eBay too.
Must be short shaft.
I'm in North Wales so ideally not in scotland/south east/south coast.
thanks!

wxmrich,
I have a de-restricted Tohatsu 9.9 which equates to a 15hp, not used it for a while, it was on my zodiac with steering so you would need to put the tiller back on, and give it an overhaul, send me a pm and make me an offer.

You won't get one for £600 though they go for double that.

Specifically I was referring to a Yam but any 15 for £400 is a great deal.

I've a 2006 Tohatsu 9.8hp 2 stroke. Short shaft tiller control. Later black model with red decals. 26kgs.
Not the best cosmetic condition but runs well. Some numpty has sprayed the leg and it looks average at best.
Priced £750 ono
Can get pictures.

Thanks for the replies.
Steve: I'm not sure i'd be confident with refitting the tiller and servicing the engine myself, and getting somone else to do it would probably take me over my budget..
I'm gonna stick with a 15hp rather than a 9.8. As nice as the Tohatsus look i think i'd be wondering what a 15hp was like all the time if I bought one.
I can now probably stretch to £700, and the potential for a road trip to the south coast is there. So if anyone has anything let me know!

Your best bet is buying a package on eBay and splitting - there are currently quite a few on there (3.2 to 3.8m SIBS with 15's - Yam, Mariner etc) some very badly listed, ie nothing but 'boat' etc in title. Have a good scan through. Email the seller and try and do a deal offline, then split and sell. I did this with a Yam 380 SIB, Yam 15 and trailer a while back, all for £1350 - boat went for £700, trailer made £200...do the math as they say!

Couple at Bridger Marine... but at £2k! Not sure if they're long shaft though.
John Bridger Marine
Also a 4-stroke at Seamark Nunn.

You could try Andy Seedhouse - he seems to have the odd 2-stroke that might suit your budget, although nothing in just now: Listing Items For Sale: Engines (Outboard)

The Tohatsu 9.9 was a restricted 15Hp !! I removed the restrictor, so although it says 9.9 on the cover, it is actually a 15Hp.
Servicing and refit of tiller is very simple, if you don't want it, I will be doing the work myself, and placing on ebay once complete.

I'm also looking for a 15hp short shaft 2 stroke. Similar sort of budget too - I'm always worried about buying from eBay because my mechanical knowledge isn't great and I don't want to buy trouble. Would look at a 20hp if you all thought my 30yr old Avon sport boat could handle it??

Buying privately on eBay is the same as buying privately from any advertising medium - there are good guys and bad guys. You'd be mad to buy an outboard sight unseen regardless - always go along, inspect it, see it running etc before handing over any cash.

ebay is fine..... just insist on seeing it running and pumping, check the gears go in and out and leave it running for 10 min....checkout their feedback if they are big ebayers they`ll be scared of negative comments...make sure you`ve got a proper address not `meet me behind the crown geezer`
