2006 Yamaha 25hp 2 stroke outboard
Engine looks good, but I thought the L on the serial plate stood for long shaft ?

Seemingly it's a long short shaft but classed as a short shaft according to a Google search or would you call it a medium shaft all very confusing

Strange, you sure it's the correct serial number on the engine?

if you measure from the bottom of the bracket to cav plate it will be 15 inches thickness of bracket is were the 17 inch comes from

Serial number on bracket matches engine number unless it's been converted to a short shaft by previous owner.

Suppose that's a possibility but that would make it more attractive to me if I were buying knowing it can be converted two different boat possibilities then small rib & sib trailer & fold up well worth the money been a year ago would have snapped your hand off for it.

>>>Max was its on the back burner last I heard
I think Max spent about 10yrs sibbing budget on a VW campervan and disappeared into Europe.
BTW my guess is also a lower unit swap in the past to make it a short shaft. I'd be totally happy to buy on that assumption... nice motor.

Now I was going to stick my neck out but thought better of it but since Dave 3235 has said 17 inch leg I thought I had seen short shaft and standard shaft over the years now what that means to me is there's an intermeadate size hence 17 inch now is that bracket thickness and measurements taken top rather than bottom of the bracket or is it boat design and outboard manufactures trying to accommodate would like to know if anyone knows. The point I am trying to make is the lifting of engines on blocks or plates etc is it not as standard as we think? 15, 20, 25 etc
