Quick Question

Jono

Hope your keeping well

Quick question if I may, my old disco has died so looking for another tow vehicle, I am afraid I can't stretch to the defender but I think in the past you had a freelander at one point. Bar the known technical problems, was it any good for towing / lunching ribs from say the slip at your office.

I am trying to find something thats fairly cheap, economical, but will still tow my 7m Osprey....probably impossible I know.

Thanks

David

Probably a debate for another thread, but:
friend of mine has a Freelander which he uses quite a bit to launch and recover boats. It's ok for small stuff but like any other regular car isn't really man enough for anything sizable: it struggled to pull my old 7m Solent up the Camber slip in Portsmouth (which is one of the best slips around).

I agree - the original model Freelander clutch was a weak point, the Td4 clutch would stink even after a decent hill start never mind with a trailer on the back. Freelander 2s are better though not tried towing with one. Puma Defender is the business, with anti stall and low range you could pull a Red Jet up the slipway without touching the throttle

The design was the Freelander 1 was based on the old Austin Mystro van so my knowledgeable friend was telling me!

The prototype Freelander had a Maestro van body fitted to it for trials.

David, you can buy an old shape Mitzy L200 for Freelander money. Mine pulls the 7m anywhere effortlessly.

BTW, the Freelander 2 is way, way ahead of the original.
