android plotter

anyone any info on the new android with 10" touchscreen
can they be used as an onboard plotter
how do you download the software and where from how much
they sell for less than £200 so if they will keep water out ??
be a cheap alternative

It would be interesting to see how it stacked up against something like the Garmin 620, which starts out waterproof for about 400 quid.

watch the Ipad, only works at sea if you get the iPad with "Wi-Fi + 3G". The other has no GPS and gives a faux gps by triangulating from cell towers.

connect via nmea 2000

just bought a garmin 541
can I connect an android to it via nmea 2000?
or any other means?
or a laptop as last resort

Yes...... so how does the Wi Fi model connect to the cell towers....? The Wi Fi model uses the IP location to determine location of the device. The "A-GPS" of the 3G model uses standard satellite GPS boosted by triangulation.
