Any free stuff for safety

I've just spent £500 over budget on an engine, hear the violins. I'm looking for help going out safely. I currently have Searider 4 meter, the consol needs fixing and the engine is not fitted on the boat, its basically a shell that needs fitting out. I have steering wheel control box, battery box, 125ah leasure battery, "not sure if this is ok for engine start??", fishfinder, one life jacket for my son , mobile phone. But no budget left for owt els.

I need flares , plotter, sea charts , life jackets, radio and anything else you have. Theres a catch it needs to be free. If it will last a season thats fine, I just have itchy feet and can see myself being complacant and just "I'll be allright-ing it." Whats the minimum safety requirement for inshore around hastings, I know , same as the north sea !! Any offers much appreciated.

I promise I'll do the same for someone else one day !!

That sounds like "Ops Normal" for a SR4

You might score some kit from members, but be careful you don't end up using out of service lifejackets, expired flares, etc.

I really think that you might be best meeting up with someone and getting a bit of a run down on safety etc. I'd suggest a PL2 course but you don't seem to have the budget for it.

Gaffa tape! A Seariders friend! Just stick it over your eyes before you go out, you won't need anything else :-D

I think I can help, how would you like a 2012 Garmin plotter with UK charts, a new anchor/chain/rope, a VHF handheld radio and course in Hastings and a full set of safety gear for 2 people including life jackets with harness (choose auto or manual), a full set of waterproofs on a size of your choice (Henry Lloyd), flares, first aid kit and LED high power torch?
