Ebay blue cover members update

Hi well was up at the boat last week after 5months and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that after the winter we have had in West of Scotland the cover is 100% intact not one little tear! Absolutely brillant no damage at all. I was wondering how the others who purchased last year faired over the winter?

Had to replace mine about a month ago as it had started to rot. It lasted 2 1/2 years.

It probably would have lasted another 6 months but there was a small tear in it where it went over the outboard.

2 Winters in & I finally got round to sewing the correct shape into the back end of it last week.

I reckon good for another 2 at least - its kept on pretty tight to stop any flapping which has saved it in strong winds I reckon.

Maybe not 100% waterproof now , but not too concerned - keeps the leaves & dirt out , and any water runs off the decks anyway over winter.

As importantly stops prying eyes & birds/ animals getting on/in the boat.

Have to say its the best £80 odd quid I've spent on boaty things.

I am after one of the famous blue covers - please can you send me a link. It is for a 6.5m rib that is in Muscat so I will let you know how the covers stand up to serious UV. If it does a year I will be happy
many thanks

Their ebay shop has nothing in it at the mo though. May be worth ringing them before buying.

Mine has done Dartmouth and back from Portsmouth at least 4 times now, and only needed one repair when I forgot to put one of my pipe insulation pieces on the windshield and the edge went through the cover.

I don't tend to use it locally, just for longer jouneys where there is also all the camping gear to keep covered in the boat.

The secret is to adjust the straps both over the cover and under the boat to minimise billowing and flapping.
I add 3 additional straps over the boat when doing a long journey which helps.

Nasher.

Depends how well it fit your particular boat. They are only plastic fittings and elastic holding them down.

Mine flapped quite badly when I towed it 2 miles with it on.

Never tried to tow with it, although I have considered it. Was wary of it blowing off and creating a right load of trouble.

Mine's lasted two years now, small tear where its rubbed on the steering wheel which I've now duck taped , great stuff that duck tape!

A futher update as its that time of year when these things come out again in anger...

Have done a few 'tweaks to the rear for a 'better' fit - not perfect by any means but better round the frame & over the engine. If I could be bothered I'd do it properly.... but hey!

Pics of it on 'on water' - three of the four straps under the hull (i couldn't be bothered with the 4th and without it the 'tent' effect is better. Survived the 50knt gusts last week & stops the majority of water coming in ( running the bilge pump batteries down).

Not as waterproof as when new 3 years ago, but some fabsil will help when its dry .

Pete

A Pontoon to crawl out on to and a weight to sink the straps under the hull. Start at the bow work back & crawl around under the cover and tighten the elastic a lot !

have towed with mine fitted loads of times, and yes when I fill the boat with other stuff - kayak's, paddles, etc etc
secret is adding bungy cords.
A large one around the console, and link ones connecting at the four corners
down and right under the hull. That stops most of the billowing, but you will always get a little. More bungy cords you use the less flappy you get
