I have indeed Billy, I’ve managed to source a tidy Ribcraft 585. I’m sure a refurb thread will appear on here soon enough

this one will be for keeps.
I’ve been working my way up to a Ribcraft that I can get 4 seats and double console in. I prefer the double console, it’s a bit more sociable when cruising with ‘er indoors.
Anyone know where all the long shaft engines have gone? Everything seems to be XL.

Depending on which version transom you have, you may need an XL

Side by side jockey is a keeper!
I've searched the usual sites for outboards Alan and it's like going on a beach with a metal detector. 5p coin, two ring pulls and an empty can of peach slices.
The 585 can take 150hp, would you consider a Mariner 4-stroke?

i was hoping you would appear, you usually know of something.
I’d prefer to stick to the Suzuki or Yamaha, purely for the fact that I know my way around them, there’s also a Suzuki dealer in Oban and Yamaha in Inverness, I’ve got a decent relationship with both so would like to go that direction. These engines are getting extremely complex these days and having a dealer local will be handy.
I’m not overly fussed about maxing out on the hp’s but if I can’t find what I’m looking for then I may need to reconsider.
The Mariner you speak about… is that the one on FAFB?

Indeed, like a quote from Mad Max, 'Two days ago, I saw a vehicle that would haul that tanker. You want to get out of here? You talk to me.'
It's EFI, no idea of price, but take your point about complexity. With these engines you're into a laptop and software to diagnose a lumpy idle. I'll keep my eyes open and anything else I'll drop you a line. Looking forward to the refurb.

It’ll have the fairly deep cut out on the transom then. Mine was the same & could get a bit sloppy over the stern when at rest with the sea on the back. I got into the habit of spinning the boat 180deg when coming to rest in a following sea. Make sure you have a good reliable bilge pump(s). Depending on how much of a project it is, it might be worth giving a thought to raising the transom.

Cheers Billy, I’ve now decided to go down the XL route so that would work perfect, just waiting to hear back on a DF140.
