Come on Olly, don't be lazy.
Cut a new piece of plywood, cover it in varnish or epoxy, and if you bring it up to my gaff you can use my heavy duty stapler and stainless staples to put the cover back on.

thanks all - I've done the right thing, replaced all rotten timber, stained and multiple coats of varnish - new stainless hinges, screws, go upholstery professionally made to fit -
