small outboard 3hp to 5 hp old and cheap if pos

Hi to all
i know cheap is'nt always a good option when it comes to outboards, but funds not good at the moment and just looking for something small to push my boat along my local canal, think my 70hp on just knocking into forwards would coarse tidal waves. so any members that have a small outboard knocking about, even if it needs a bit of work/service please let me know, i live in Devon so local would be a benifit, but will consider some travel.

My local outboard shop has a Mariner 2hp for £150, but dont think it will push my boat
cheers Matt

I am guessing that 8 hp + would be a usefull backup /trolling motor for a 4m+ bayliner?.

yes 8hp would be good for a back up, but for the mo will just settle for a small cheap one for the canal and when things are good will sell on and upgrade

If you want small and cheap, what about an old seagul lots of "push" for their size as bayliner is heavy.
I picked up a seagul 40+ that just needed a service/clean for £40.

Downside is the noise/smoke !, but powerful for there size and cheap.

hi camelgas
once again thank you for your recommendation, thing is it probably wouldn't go down to well with canal users, i am just waiting on some info on whether the mariner 2hp will push it, i had one many years ago and it pushed a 14' sail dingy along quite well with three people on board, if it is a go ahead i can probably get the mariner for £100-120 which would be brillient
