Tohatsu 18Hp 2 stroke short
Hi,
Last year I impulsively sold my 8Hp 2 stroke Tohatsu to someone know who was desperate for an engine, believing that I could easily replace it and hoping that I'd be able to get a 9.8. I've failed!
So when this 18Hp came up locally I thought I'd try it as the RIB is rated to 15Hp. It's too much, the 9.8 would have been perfect, So I'm thinking about selling this one and continuing the search, on the plus size the 5Hp 4 stroke on it right now uses no fuel at all!
The 18Hp is a 2006 model, was bought new by the previous owner in 2007 to go on a tender on Windermere, then he sold his yacht at the end of the year and it's sat in a garage in East Yorkshire till I bought it a month ago, it's only just run in. It was a remote control engine, I bought a used tiller as I only have a 3m boat and took all the electric start bits off, but could sell it either way. Altogether I've spent £1600 (£1500 for the engine + £100 for the tiller), too much I know but I'd hoped to recoup some of that by selling the electric start bits separately and I still might.
Is anyone interested in it, I think it would be great on a slight bigger boat, about 3.5m probably, and how much would you give for it? Was going to put it on Ebay but there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason for prices on there. I might be interested in a P/X for a Tohatsu 8 or 9.8

Weight
Weight is quoted as 41Kg. I haven't weighed it! On the engine plate it says 41 - 46Kg, I think this is a generic plate for the model so 41Kg I presume is the manual start short shaft and 46Kg the electric start long shaft.
It's the biggest engine I'd like to hump about regularly, same as the Tohatsu / Mariner / Mercury 9.9, 15 and 18 Hp 2 strokes and a bit more chunky than the 6 / 8 / 9.8 that I really want in 9.8 guise which weigh in as 27Kg.

I was looking for a bit more HP ideally as my last SIB had 25hp 2 stroke
However, if its a real bargain, then it might tempt me
Am I right thinking that 2 strokes are only availability new for commercial use? .... yours is a 2015 model

3.2m SIB should fly with 18hp, 25hp was scary quick in chop/one up
Do you launch in abergele?

Have you got any pictures of the 9.8? My 18 is a 2005, very clean. will find a pic and post it up. Let me know if you'd be interested in doing a deal.
