TOHATSU 9.8 Two Stroke - Short Shaft Outboard

Tohatsu 9.8 Two Stroke Outboard

This has seen about 15 hours use.

Has just been fully serviced.

Its a great outboard, very powerful and has never let me down.

Quite hard to get hold of being a two stroke.

Included with the outboard is the stand. Also two petrol tanks, one 25L and one 12L. The 12L one is brand new and never been used.

Also a set of muffs if I can find them.

Looking for £700. But open to sensible offers.

This is a collection only sale, unless you arrange your own courier.

Item is located in Woolacombe, North Devon.

Some pictures of the Tohatsu

This should go very quick, that is a superb price for a very desirable engine with extras too! Been a few people after one of these.

It would have been but it now looks like this this back available as the seller has said he's unable to find the serial number on it. He says the little sticker may have fallen off. Unfortunately that prevents me buying it although I agree with him it's possible that it's fell off. I'm not questioning the legitimacy of the engine in any way I just cannot buy motors without them. Or more to the point I cannot sell them...

Sorry Dorian, shame it would have been good to meet you again

I can get it shipped to Southampton next working day for £40. That includes the outboard, fuel tanks and stand.

For the outboard alone it would cost £20.

Cheers.

Just looked at mine. The serial number is a sticker on the side with some clear film over it. I cannot see any other numbers on it anywhere.

I'm almost tempted to buy this and sell it next year! As said I paid more than this for a serviced one off a dealer recently.

Trouble is without a serial number you cannot insure it. You have no way of tracing it history, or if it's been stolen before (I'm not suggesting it has). I've bought from Dorian before and was very happy with that purchase. I'm still tempted but just think its difficult for me to do anything with it! If I was a private buyer I'd snap it up (although that prop looks to have done a fe hours).

I agree with the insurance. I got a few quotes and they all wanted the number. I had run the serial number through stolenboats.org before purchase too even though it was from a well known dealer. Even for indemnity only they still want the numbers.

Seems rubbish that the serial number is only a sticker in a marine environment but the serial numbers on my computers and hifi gear are only stickers too and they are worth more than my outboard. Maybe if serial numbers were etched onto outboards in a few places as cars are now there would be less theft. With modern manufactring this can't be that expensive.

I thought Cameron had vetoed the EC as they had banned the sale of new 2 stokes? The whole financial crisis was just a smoke screen for the real issue of the problems that being in the EU had caused the UK boater.

So if we are out of the EU perhaps we can buy new 2smokes again

I can assure you chaps that to my knowledge it is not stolen.

I purchased the engine from a chap in Plymouth earlier in the year and he told me that it had done no more than 15 hours.

I have never personally used it at sea, I had it serviced when I got it and the engineer who did the service work said it runs as sweet as a nut. I have never used it since.

You can see his details on the sticker on the top of the engine cover, if you have any doubts give him a call and mention my name, he will hopefully remember the outboard as he did say they are becoming rare.
