A NEW Garmin Etrex at the LDS was £79!!!

They don;t get really any cheaper than that here!

I was off to the States this month, I had a falling out with my boss and now I'm not!!

I too had lots of goodys lined up to bring back at bargain prices (Plotter, depth sounder). Looking at the bright side though, I'll be able to go to the LBS instead and get some last day bargains

Op's, My mistake - not LDS - LBS.
The exact same unit was on sale at £79!
Wal Mart have NO mention of shipping oversea's on their site which usually means costs a lot more!
So $89.62 + Carriage + IMPORT DUTY ++17.5 % vat - take a look at this page & you may have a shock to the system"!!"

A quick line from it reads:

Import Duty is usually percentage based. It averages at between about 5% and 9% - but with extremes in some cases between nil and 85%.

If that doesn't wake you up ! then there is more :

Value Added Tax (VAT) is then added. The value for VAT purposes is therefore the declared value of the goods, PLUS the transport costs to the country of destination, PLUS the Import Duty

If that works out at less than £79 you will be lucky.

You might find that once you decide to go ahead with your purchase, some companys in the US won't deal with us Brits anyway.

still looking for garmin gps looked abroad but think i will have to pay tax and inport duty so if any body has one that want to get rid of please let us know
