antenna connections

had a thought.
I also have a Garmin 531s
Can I connect it to a Garmin 3010 via the power lead so that both units work off the internal GPS anntenna fitted to the 531s.
will the 3010 chartplotter work and also give sonar info or just depth

Hi, Are you sure of your requirements? The 17x is an NMEA 2000 device, X Link. the 16 & 17 HVS are NMEA 0183 HVS Link. I believe the 16 is a 17 without the mounting base.

Now I've told you this, I have a spare GPS16HVS which I bought for use with a GPS3010.

But there is such a thing as a 17x HVS which is 0183:

antenna

HI JW,
how much do you want inc postage as that seems to be the easiest option and will leave both units undependant for back up GPS purposes
have been told I can link both units together
To connect these two devices together to share GPS position and the numerical value of the depth from the sonar the easiest
option is to use the bare wires power data cables that they each have,
connecting the brown wire from each device to the blue wire on the
other.

antenna

got sorted thanks to everyone.
Garmin support came up trumps in the end
It took them two attempts to succeed but have joined blue and brown wires from 531 to green and white wires of 3010. I now have gps info on both machines using the inbuilt antenna of the 531.
thanks for all your answers
