WANTED: Outboard Bracket /Transom for Avon

Hello!

I have acquired a classic old 10' Avon inflatable dinghy, and planning on putting a small 2 stroke 5hp outboard on it.

Does anyone have a spare engine bracket to fit this dinghy?

Thanks!

Can't be that hard to make - I am sure I have seen one made with copper pipe.

If you really want instructions then PBO have an article on how to make one but its £6.95 to download and no idea how good it would be.

And plenty on ebay if they are for the right model

Rob, is it a Redcrest or a Redstart? If it is, they won't take the weight of a 5hp. Rated to a max of 4hp from memory, and it can get 'interesting' trying to stop a 4hp 2 stroke trying to shove its prop under the boat. This is down to the boat flexing, not the bracket moving.
It's shaky even putting a 4hp 4 stroke on there because of the weight.
If it's an old style Redstart or Redcrest, this will fit:-

Flexing is down to the the fact it has no woodern transom as such and most of the thrust is taken on the tubes ,along with the fact the floorboards are thin and bend a bit ,,with hard tubes and the correct size engine there is not much of a problem ,

That's if it's got floorboards. Some don't. Mine doesn't and hasn't had them from new by the looks of it.

there was someone with stainless stuff at a boat jumble recently

he also makes stainless brackets for avons

it was £60

they are based in plymouth... try 01752 517204

seemed reasonable quality too - at least Biff thought so IIRC
