Nope.
Was there an argument about wheather you could build a car big enough to drive across the channel or something equaly stupid?

Well this is my set up and regretfully not the best. The Freelander I have is the 1.8 petrol version and not the best for pulling the rib up the slip out of the water. I had the vehicle before I got the rib. Anyway since the Plymouth weekend I have not used my Freelander on a slip. It just hasn't got the power and really struggled to get up. Fortunately the Littlehampton Marina, where I have been keeping my Seahawk, do all the launching and recovery with their tractors.
Not having the right vehicle has however prevented me from venturing out and taking part in other cruises.
I have been thinking of changing the vehicle and have even test driven the Jeep Cherokee 2.5 TD. It has the power but don't know what it is like up the slip. Is it another Freelander? Would appreciate some feed back if anyone out there has any experience with this particular vehicle
Andre

Stu decided that L/Rover Discovery's could walk on water so launched one off the slip at the Hamble. How deep did it go ? well lets just say the front seats got wet with the doors closed.
Andre, my Dad has the Jeep, bit short of room in the back and lots of plastic but good soft suspension for rable in the colonies.

Get your freelander chiped. Then see how it goes on the slip. If is still pathertic then you've got yourself a faster car and you can go and buy one of those electric winches that attaches to the tow bar.
Have a look here

In reply to andre,s query about the jeep,I have bought an older 2.5 petrol jeep cherokee as my previous car,a honda crv, struggled up a slipway in fowey,I have only launched and recovered once with the jeep which was easy with my previous 600kg boat,no need for low ratio, but that really is the reason I got it,with the car in low ratio,I expect the car to be more then capable with the new rib on a weedy slipway.

Discovery or defender with traction control and low ratio you would pull anything up the slip (including a jeep)

It's only a wild stab in the dark - but I'm guessing that thing weighs more than double 600 kg!
If those Freelander things have low ratio I would of thought it would cope.
Just got my second Nissan Navara 4 door pickup - fantasic cars - climate control electric everything and 130hp 2.5 litre turbo deisel - pull down the proverbial house before breaking into a sweat!

I had a freelander, but i had the 2 litre diesel. It was fantasic on the slipway, pulled up my old rib like it wasn't there and recovered my friends Megregor(im not too hot on spellings(not on sailboats anyway))26 with its water ballast full up the reasonably steep slip in Padstow. Being the diesel is had nearly double the torque of andre's petrol.
There was a funny story behind that sailboat by the way. You see we towed it out with the mast still up and there were a few overhead cables.......
The harbour master was left with no telephone, power, radio, radar. He wasn't pleased...
however....
It all resulted in a christmas card from the Padstow harbour master and he got a new harbour masters office over the winter complete with a full set of underground cables.

Thanks Guys for your input so far.
What I forgot to mention is that the weight of my Seahawk with full fuel is 1050kg + weight of trailer which I estimate at 200/250kg
I somehow do not think the Freelander Td4 will cope any better
Andre

I think that the TD4 would be a hell of a lot better, ill try and find the stats for each engine.

1.8 litre petrol - 118bhp - 158Nm of torque
TD4 - 130bhp? - 260Nm of torque
The new 2.5 litre V6 only gives 240Nm of torque
A disco would be far better but im sure the freelander woudl be more then capable

Can you get a Landy two-pedal job yet Chris, or do you still have to change gear yourself?
(Like the tents!!)
