A bit boring, but...
A dull but clear day. St Kilda from North Uist. About 60mls away in this picture.

I am intrigued, JW.
60 miles? From Griminish Point or harbour, St. Kilda is about 35miles away. How the heck can your camera see that far? And curvature of the earth etc.?
Are you sure it isn't the Monarch Isles? They are just 5 miles from the nearest point on North Uist.

My chart makes Griminish Point about 41mls to St Kilda. Griminish harbour is a couple of miles further east.
I have over gestimated though; from my chart the viewing distance in the photo is about 54mls.
It's definately not the Monarchs.
However, you've brought an interesting thing to light. In the photo, to the right of St Kilda is Haskeir but as you can see on the section of chart, you would expect Haskeir to be to the left of St Kilda. I don't see how it can be misidentification because there is nothing else out there. The discrepancy in the displacements must be due to the mercator projection used for the chart.
Unless someone knows different.

Apologies for going on about this but it's buggin me.
I'm wrong about the displacement and the day was obviously not as clear as I'd thought. However, for those with sharp eyes St Kilda is there. I have seen them crystal clear in the past..must have been wishful thinking this year.
The islands I'd first thought as St Kilda are the tail end of Haskeir Islands. I'd remembered them as much smaller. St Kilda is to the right of Haskeir, where it should be!
