a DAY OUT WITH ENALIOS

Weather had been horible all week blowing force 8-10 every day. Today after 7 days winds dropped and Enalios decided to join us on a little trip.

Enjoy. We did. Temperatures 35 C and flat (on the way back) seas

Could you ever immagine a FALCON next to a SCORPION.
On the way there the seas were quite strong (left over from the previous 7 day strong winds) with waves reaching 1.5 mtrs at times. We were doing between 22-28 knots on the GPS and it was quite a banging on both boats. Unfotunately it was quite difficult to get any photos.

On the way back sea was a bit choppy between the streights with 1 mtr waves. Passed that and it was flat calm! Speeds up to 54 knots on the FALCON to show off. Pitty Enalios didn't get any photos. However here is Enalios at 30 and 25 knots respectively going strong

Cheers Nick.
Yes thanks RIB shorted but not thanks to FALCON. They left me high and dry.
But what goes round comes round. So sometime, someday, somewhere .........

Good weather after the storm then, Manos. I guess that Enalios' Scorpion is actually built by Ribco?

AND FINALLY this is the 700RSR just a 2 year old boat. After a hard ride yesterday with the Scorpion these things came off it and we never hit a wood or anything like that.
What was it? Bubbles in the jell coat Mr Beeny!!
Anything to say about that Mr Beeny??

Yes I think so Richard. Is a lush boat. Sun deck forward and aft, huge nicely padded seats with good quality covers and lush padding where the plastic covers do not rip in the corners and do not come off and many many pluse points, also a radio tape recorder that does not come off when you bang on waves and works all the time and a GPS that itss base does not unscrew. I'm putting safety srews on mine as it didn't have any on!! I am very impressed with the quality of the 8 mtr Scorion boat. Finish and built and the amount of space (deck and storage) that is got on it. For an 8 mtr boat the space is huge. You can store tonnes of things. Is a very nice boat. Why are they so expenssive!!

bimini

manos,
noticed the Bimini on the Scorpion. Is the leg base attached straight onto the tube?
Looking at fitting my new Xs-rib with some kind of shade, but though I had to go with T top as hadn't seen any tube mounts for Bimini's
Was this available through dealers or custom made?
cheers Dal

Hello there

It was indeed a great day out and ... Manos tks for the nice photos -
can u pls email them to me as well

Richard b - Scorpions are being built by a local yard under licence by Scorpion uk n Ribco is doing the marketing/sales n after sales service for them - here are placed at the top of the local rib market - I am very pleased...so far.

Limaydal - These fittings are not custom made and are available in retail here
I am sure the people who do the boat covers n biminis etc at UK should have them - if not let me know to assist fm here

I know what you mean berg and thanks. But these chips appeared when we got back that day. Actually my son noticed them as we were taking videos of the boat underneath with the underwater video.

During the day there are no chips and they appeared after our return. Any way I've jell coated them and is as new. But it shouldn't have happened is bad for the fibre glass to be left exposed in the water like that. OSMOSIS comes to mind.

Poor old Manos.
I think you are destined to go through life, believing that there is no link at all, between paying more money and getting a better quality product in return. (Scorpion v. Falcon)

Have to agree with you here Brian. But is a limit on what one is prepared to pay and 80,000 Euro for an 8 mtr RIB what ever this boat is made of and by whom is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!

WAY TOO MUCHCONSIDERING THAT THEESE BOATS ARE BUILT IN GREECE. I mean that they have the same standard costs / meter as any other rib made in Greece

With all due respect I don't agree with you - the principle of 'what you pay is what you get' apply here - would suggest you go n check the boats' building place for Scorpions in Greece and you will observe very high standards (1st class materials/work, controlled enviroment etc etc) plus ask them to show you the studies they did on the boat and you will get impressed both by the volume and the quality of the job done. I don't say they are perfect I am just saying they are reasonably good professionals and the price you pay for their product is what you get with very good after sales service and good resale value. On the price the 8.5 mtrs fully loaded incl trailer twin engine say 2x225 optimax note is abt euros 85k which is more expensive if compared with another similar boat by say abt 20 pct - I tested a number of similar boats this winter at difficult conditions and I strongly believe it was the best of all of them as far as sea-performance is concerned (the rest are personal taste ). I hope my next one to be the 8.5m twin engined.

Enalios,

I do hope that you get what you wish for, but I strongly believe that these prices apply to UK made boats. There is no manufacturer in Greece who doesn't employ Albanians and we all know how much the cost to a company, compared with Greeks, or even worse, with specialized personel. As far as the studies (and by that I mean the constructional studies of the boats), I don't think that Scorpion UK neither lets them do any changes, nor left them "naked" in the market. I mean that the studies were made at the mother factory, not here.
Any way the fact is that Scorpions have (fairly) a very good reputation on the market.

Bat believe me I've been on Enalios' SCORPION and the next boat I'll get (if is not an aly RIB) will deffinately be a SCORPION!! The boat is Great - I didn't think is as good as it is. Nothing cheap on it and everything is srewed and made to withstand the harsh sea environment. ASscond hand like that one costs about 35-45K Euro which is not that much (just the price of 2 1/2 Falcons 640s ) .
