That was made by Marine Fabrications under the direction of Osprey UK. It isn't their standard design, I wanted a tapered one (the parallel tube ones look too much like scaffolding for my liking, sorry DHD ) and also with mooring cleats on the frame to provide a secure mooring point at the stern which is not normally on the Osprey frames - an idea nicked from Redbay

The only thing I forgot to ask for was something to hang the ensign from but a couple of small SS eyebolts tapped into the tube at the rear of the frame should be ok - gotta have a Union Jack showing round these parts or else!!

Nice big cleats on the A-frame, good idea often forgotten about

Will you be getting DSC info from the Icom up on the plotter screen? I never managed it even though I get position info on my M503.

Damn 0183 I love Icom radios but which they'd get with the programme and start using nmea2000

You can never have too many places to tie a rope on in a windy country

The Digital Yacht AIS receiver on the A frame *should* merge the slow 0183 feed from the VHF with its own high speed AIS feed and stuff the whole lot into the plotter on the high speed 0183 input, whether it works or not remains to be seen but it seems like it should do in theory ... though it isn't clear from the Icom manuals whether the Icom 0183 feed is bi-directional or just an input to the VHF to get position from a GPS for distress calls (which I suspect might be the case - it would explain your problem). If that particular bit doesn't work I'm not that bothered as I will have the AIS data on the plotter, and nobody here really uses DSC anyway, if you sink you usually just call up Fishops and shout "heeeeeeeeeeeelp" on Ch16

It has just missed the MOD cargo ship by a matter of days, the next one is not receiving until early September, sailing mid - late September and arriving here around end of October which seems like a year away at the moment

Just one observation Stephen. I had the same console on my Viper and I found that having the steering in the lower position made it very uncomfortable to stand up and brace yourself. This meant I had to sit and of course when it gets rough that could become quite uncomfortable.

I think much earlier on in your build threads I sent a link to the thread I started when I had the steering moved up to the top face of the console.

It certainly made a huge difference in the rough! and was a much more comfortable position in general.

Good point Chris ... I don't remember the link (is it on here?) but just to be different I have got my steering in a unique position - I ruled out the usual lower steering position mainly on the grounds of belly-room when seated, but I didn't want it in the high position either as that wipes out half the space for instruments on a dive console, so Roy checked it out and found he could install the steering about half way between the usual two positions which left all the main space free for instruments and still made a good bit more space between the wheel and the seat. I think this will be the best compromise, always difficult to say without actually being able to sit on the boat and try it for size but I think it will be ok.

Overall I am very very pleased with the way it is looking - if a meteorite landed on the cargo ship there might be a couple of very minor tweaks to small items if I did a v2, but nothing worth mentioning - Roy has done a great job in turning my disjointed ramblings into a boat and I can't bloody wait to hit the water in it

Yesterday the beast got wet at last

'Sea' trial was actually done on a lake, to check all was OK and test props etc. without filling the trailer hubs etc up with salt water and then leaving them to sit for 2 months.

Roy reports hitting 54mph (which I make about 47kt) at 5400rpm on a 20" Raker prop before he ran out of lake hehehehe

A 21" Viper gave about 52mph at 5100-5200rpm so am not sure whether I am going to get a 20" Raker and 21" Viper (I want a spare and the Raker is available as an extra and is cheap so that's going to be one of them) or a 20" in both. I think a 19" Viper would be a bit too revvy, though he didn't have one to try. A 22" Viper was tried but only got to 5000rpm and that's definitely a bit too low.

Needless to say I am looking forwards to getting my hands on it

Er ... yeah you noticed the rakish angle then

Roy admitted it had a slight accident with a roller door at one point during construction so is putting a new one in but leaving it for me to fit on arrival in case it gets pranged during shipment, for a boat to need two new Vtronix before it is even delivered would be a record even for that make of antenna I think
