Re the mention of your Humber being smoother possibly, to some extent in a small sea it might be. The destroyer has less chines so cuts through the waves more, but isn't so dry and doesn't get out of the hole as easy as the OP or your new toy.

Enjoy, scenery looks awesome too, v jealous.

I think the oil for the E-tec is now HPF-XR, not sure if you can use the older stuff (don't see why not though).

What I really noticed (bit unscientific) is going across 2-3ft waves it snap rolled a lot more from side to side than I think the Humber used to, as if the chines on the "uphill" side of the wave were digging in and lifting that side of the boat, which I suppose they would. I think the non-chined Destroyer hull was more of a wallow than a sharp motion.

Yes - without a doubt it is much drier than the Destroyer, I hadn't really thought of it while I was out but there was enough wind yesterday that I would have got bloody soaked in the Destroyer and apart from a couple of very small facefuls it stayed dry on board

Hammering head into the same waves, much better, and going with the waves, equally seemed to be much better. Hole shot - mmm it was sort of rroooaoaAARRR 30 knots stupid grin

Today has been a day of fettling and sorting out a few issues like fitting the aux outboard which was not straightforward, but I'll do a separate post on that in the engines forum later as I want some views on what I am going to do.

Some from today - good stiff north easterly so I suited up and went out into the open sea (fetch: about 5000 miles) to check out the rough water handling - very impressed - pretty dry and as comfortable as could be expected slamming into a head sea, though I did think it seemed more inclined than the Humber to stuff in a following sea, could be just the weight of the console and much bigger fuel tank being well forwards but had water over the bow tube a couple of times dropping into a hole at 18-20kts.

I went in behind a local island wildlife reserve called Kidney Island and had an "interesting" exit - a couple of very big waves, on the biggest one I had the whole boat and the prop out of the water and I was only doing about 8 knots we just went up and up and then ooo we seem to have air, so can now confirm an Osprey flies quite well and lands gracefully

seems well balanced anyway where the Humber would have been an "Ooo f"

The other half was wandering around with camera in hand when I came back in so got some more shots which are attached, it was fairly calm in the harbour though.

What's the distance between the centre of your front seat cushion and the rear face of the anchor locker, where it meets the deck?

I can't say that I've experienced this "Snap roll" off the crest of any wave with mine. Obviously mine is 400mm longer than yours but is still the same hull design 400mm forward of the transom.

My layout is different than yours however (Double Console and side by side seating along with a 200L fuel tank), which might well indicate a weight balance issue. Try a couple of sand bags in different places next time you go out, might well help you understand whats going on.

Not sure about the seat cushion but I know the front of the dive console is 500mm from the anchor locker.

The forward placing was deliberate as I had a hell of a fright with the Humber a few years ago when I nearly flipped it over backwards going a bit too fast into a strong headwind so I figured that keeping my (ahem) not inconsiderable mass

well forwards would keep the nose down, which is exactly what it did yesterday. Also when you've got a good breeze on the beam (good breezes being the norm down here), the further back you sit, the wetter you get, as the Mrs used to keep telling me

with a double console I would be sitting more or less where the second seat is positioned.

Oddly it seemed much less sensitive to the rolling on the last two times I was out so it may be related to a particular combination of trim and sea conditions. Plus, I may have slowed down a bit

Part of the issue is that the Osprey seats are completely flat and with a flotation suit on you slide around a lot on the seat in rough water as there's no friction at all between the seat and the suit. The Humber seat was sort of buttock-shaped and also the material was grippy (effect of years of UV I think) so was more secure. I'm thinking of covering mine with an outer layer of some of that soft rubber grip-mat as an experiment and maybe getting a S/S Jesus handle made up for the console.

Still absolutely loving it

only f-up was my trailer choice, I should have stuck with Roy's standard roller trailer. It'll work OK once I have modified it, but it doesn't at the moment.

Sounds like there's too much weight forward. On the rare occasions when someone's travelled on the suicide seat on mine, I've found the balance to be awful.

I hardly ever sit down on mine and during rough weather I ride her "Jockey" style, wedging my fat arse into the backrest wings for added support. Could this not be a technique you could use?

I do that as well but actually when it gets really rough I prefer to sit down with one foot wedged under each tube - not a very flattering pose but it works
