There should you be grease fittings on the steering/ tilt tube. If you can get them out shoot some penetrating oil in there. That may help a bit then you can probably work it loose.

Best of luck with your new Yacht!

Well guys had the day off work to get some more done however not a very productive day!

First off after removing grease nipples and attacking with a whole can of penetrating oil from every angle over the weekend i managed to get it moved about 2" back into the tilt tube after several hours of serious whacking with my largest hammer all all i seem to have achieved is this:

I then moved onto the next job whilst I decided what to do next.

When I first got it home and started I noticed there was no water coming through the tell-tale so first thing was replace the impeller which was easy enough although you have to disconnect the drive linkage which involves taking the starter motor off but as that's only two bolts is easy enough

Old impeller was knackered and one of the fins was split through and barely held on, got it back together and still no water coming out???

I removed the thermostat and ran without one in, still no water!!

Blew down the tell-tale tube and could hear air escaping from around mid way down the leg (where the exhaust port is) so my best guess is the water tube which locates when the lower unit is replaced is not seated properly so now I have to remove start and lower unit again to investigate

I also put the garden hose on and back washed the system but all the water came out the bottom of the lower unit.

I also took the opportunity to clean up the t/stat and check its operation in hot water and seems to expand and contract fine.

To top it off after all my hard work cleaning it its now filthy from all the penetrating oil and getting and out all day long!!

one option maybe to find another tilt tube and cut the old cable off as I have a replacement Teleflex and replaced the whole lot but no idea where to find a replacement as the only ones I can find on ebay are in the States.

I think I'd be replacing the steering cable anyway as it's clearly well siezed so probably suffering from corrosion up the cables length as it's safety related I'd replace for peace of mind
If replacing the cable I'd cut the cable off the other end of the tilt tube with a grinder then you can knock the arm both ways through the tilt tube
Better to sacrifice the cable than work on & damage the tilt tube
Hopefully the water problem isn't too serious did you check all the pipes & galleries while you were changing the impeller? Often blocked with crystallised salt after long layups also take the tel tale pipe off where it exits the block & try to clear it with wire
Best of luck with it

ANy marine dealer will get a cable but probably get it cheaper online just take it off and measure it (size may be on the side as a number in feet )

Teleflex Safe-T Quick Steering Cables - Discount Marine Chandlery and Sailing Equipment. Bargain Boat Spares and Clothing

once replacement arrives if you detach the wheel end and get it straight you may find it moves easier, or cut it and knock it through the tilt tube if this is corroded will need dealing with.

I dont theink the grease nipplesgothrough intothe cable just lube the tilt (on ours anyway)

How have you run the engine; with muffs? I had this exact problem running it with muffs so tried with a big bucket and it worked fine!

I ran it in a big cement bucket, I think as I am able to blow through the system and hear air escaping it must be the water line out of alignment.

Getting back to your tilt tube.. I dont mean to sound daft, but you have totally unscrewed the nut from the teleflex tube connecting it to the tilt tube?

Yep the nut is off, there's s seperate thread in the main forum which I've update but we've now cut the cable and tried knocking back the other way without success so have removed the tilt tube and its soaking in a bucket of diesel
