Awesome Day off Conwy & Anglesey
Some friends and I had an exhilarating day out on North Wales coast Tuesday taking a route from Conwy over to Holyhead...
There was plenty of chop and generally it was dry, although very cold and as the day progressed the seas steadily got rougher … , so much so that we ran out of time to make Holyhead getting as far as Cameas Bay before making a judgement call on time and conditions to turn back ..
http://youtu.be/QloW8HRN7V0
There were some big swells and areas of confused seas that made it more challenging but fun though on the return leg heavy following seas certainly concentrated your thoughts ..
Maverick handled superbly and this was the first time I was out in failing light so had to navigate off the GPS – itself quite a buzz in choppy water, although after nearly 6 hours out I am definitely feeling my age today ! The video camera dropped but you can see the benefit of the suspension seats before I righted it .. needless to say as the beers flowed that night we had ‘survived’ a typhoon and ridden 50ft waves !!

Ferk me
What a great video, even better when the cam slips down to show the suspenssion seats working overtime.
End of video: Point Lynas Lighthouse?? The seas are often very bad here, It did look nasty.
If it’s anything like that for the ribnet cruise I wont be going.
By the way, looks like some lizards hitched a ride on your bobhats.

You might not have been burning rubber, but I bet there were a few skid-marks at 15:00!

always good to see a rib being used in heavy seas - THATS WHAT THEY ARE BUILT FOR! - and the reason why 90% of the boats on anglesey are ribs!

Good vid was lumpy down our end of Cardigan Bay on Tues working between Fishguard and Cardigan, but was brightened up by a pair of Bottlenose launching out the side of the swell next to us and surfing in just beneath the surface
Agree re those Ullmans, they look to be doing a grand job....

Thanks for messages ... and thanks for that movie still Willk - hadn't spotted that but love it ! Its a shame the video stooped before the return leg as it as some of the most challenging ribbing Ive ever done - Maverick is simply bombproof - tonnes of grunt, great manouverability and handles the rough stuff really well - far better than I am at the helm and I think my bottle would go long before Maverick would falter !!
Not sure the 6hp susuki back up would be any good at all in that stuff so may change to a 15hp or the new 9.9A .. any thoughts? I think the 25hp too big for back up on transom ..?
We stayed overnight at the Bodysgallen Hall - lovely place with good Welsh beers although we forgot it was Valentines Night so we felt a little out of place amongst all the smoochers ....
