Awesome new camera

Ah, yeah if you're after a 2.8 then yes, big money. Want to get myself a 50mm lens with a large aperture for doing some portrait stuff etc, and the difference in price between the f1.8 and the f1.4 is daft.

Still, quite happy with my 300D, got it off someone who has to have the latest model, so every time a new one comes out, his current one goes up for sale

Might at some point upgrade to one of the more expensive models, if I ever take any photos to justify it that is! Think I'll stick with Canon though, that way any lenses I get now will still be useful to me.

You can usually tell the cost of a lens by looks and weighing it. One of the most amazing lenses I ever saw was for a Pentax 6x7 - the lens was huge - an 800mm F4 - weighed 17kg!!! Saw one for sale the other day - used price $8,000.

As long as you've got a monopod and strong arms, 400mm 2.8 lenses are great. Seriously sharp lens, but certainly not for everyone.

Andy has the Canon 100-400 f4, and gets some awesome results - all his telephoto shots on this site are using that, and it produces excellent results.

I am after that lens probably in a few months time just as we get some good weather and the visa card has cleared

I find that the 75-300mm lens stays on my cam more than the 18-55 lens, since it gets better shots outside. Weather's been appauling recently though for any sort of clear shots in any distance unfortunately.

Need a wider angle lens on mine at some point. Seems the bloke I bought it off replaced the 18-55mm lens with a 35-80mm lens, want something a bit wider!

I had the 100-400 pro lens. It was ok but the fixed 300 with 1.6x is a better option. The 100-400 is very heavy and very long when extended.

Just noticed the 100-400 is NOT F4 all the time - it varies up to F5.6 - not a fan of lenses like that - then again constant aperture lenses tend to be big and expensive.
