Christmas Swim

Date: 25/12/12
Time: 10.45 GMT
Location: 54 05.73N 006 11.60W

Rostrevor Christmas Day Swim celebrated its 30th anniversary this morning in perfect conditions.

Over 60 people, young and old, took part and in the last 30 years over £100,000 has been raised for charity

I have provided on the water support for all but 2 of the 30 years. In case of curiosity - the first time was back in the early days with a SR4 with a old manual 25hp that did not start on launching on a very windy lee shore and we managed to flood the boat on the slipway and the second time was simply due to a broken wrist!!!

Anybody else out over the hols?

Just talking to the organisers and the total number of swimmers on the day was a staggering 125 unbelievable for a Christmas morning swim.

The amount of money raised is also creeping up to £3,000

Finally I have been very reliably informed that as a result of the power of RIBnet and Facebook the above photo of the swimmers has been copied and posted around the world - as far away as Brazil

Rostrevor Christmas day 2015

This long standing tradition is still going from strength to strength as was witnessed by this short clip which shows part of the large turnout yesterday in very cold and wet condition.

Once again over 130 hardy souls braved the inclement conditions created by Storm Condor to participate in the annual swim @ 1015 on Christmas day morning.

BTW the RIB following alongside at the start is a Redbay Stormforce 6.1 and the video was recorded from a Honwave T38-IE2
